Hey Tim, did you get some comet pix up at Lake Lanier? I went up Wed & Thurs to Old Federal day use area. While Wed was a total failure, it helped me be better prepared for Thursday, and I got a few shots. Here's one.

We went out on the 12th and tried to stand out in the cold wind as much as possible. We also went to Old Federal day use area. Great sunset viewing location. I wish we would have stayed out later but the winds made longer exposures pretty much impossible, and we were not well prepared for just how cold it was. Here's a different crop version of the photo I posted earlier:

From Saturday - here's my wife running the Fallen Heroes of Georgia 10K at Lake Lanier Islands. She had her best time yet - taking 2nd in her age group. Wish I could have been out there running too but my leg is still not ready for race pace running.

went to the Decatur Waterworks to find it has been pretty much turned into a dog park. was rather disappointing to see a spot that used to be a kinda hidden hang out spot for many cleaned up and not nearly as secluded looking

havent had a chance to edit since i am still at the girlfriends house so this is off her laptop. also enjoyed finally getting a chance to play around with my 17-40 i recently bought from a fellow photog in atlanta

for the price im extremely pleased. would be amazing if it was like f2 but that would make for a beast of a lens lol. ill be testing it out tonight shooting some video which is the primary use my camera usually gets although lately i have started experimenting with portraits for fun using my new YN560II. the 17-40 will hopefully be fun to use for goofing around portraits as well :D

while i wish the lens was faster than f4 i cant complain since ill need extra light for most work anyway :P

after i finally purchase my own tripod and stop borrowing i think ill be saving up for a 70-200 f2.8 non-IS to complete my camera kit for general photo/video needs

I too am pleased, for the price, and what I use it for, I can't ask for much more. f2 would be nice...but you would not be able to hand hold it!

I have aspirations of a 70-200 this year, MKI...IS or non-IS...preferably IS.

yea those few extra stops would help greatly in the need for extra light to get a proper exposure :P i personally dont have much care for being able to obliterate my background out of focus although at times its fun but yeah... ill just be happy when i have a complete focal range to use for any type of work that comes my way :)

Does anybody know where this place is at?

According to the text below the picture...Explorers speak highly of an Atlanta mansion which was converted into a mental hospital for its opulence.

This is an interesting article and I would love to explore some of these places myself. Here's the complete article as well...

After doing a little research I did find something called the Candler Mansion. But it's near the middle of Atlanta. I would imagine it would be a little tough to sneak in there...
