Met up with a friend last night for some astrophotography at Lake Lanier. Had a good time, got to spend some time outdoors...but when the sketchy rednecks in POS trucks decided to show up to put a big ass $$ boat in the water at 12:30AM we decided that we better be going.

This is the last set from the night, first time trying to line up on Polaris to get that really radial look. It was supposed to be 30 minutes, but the rednecks showed up at minute 20....so it ended up being 19 minutes. I like it though. We used Google Sky Map to find and line up on Polaris...really cool app.

Thanks Ron. It was great to get out last night.

Here is the real reason I went.

Wow - I love the star trails shots Travis!! Great job!

I know what you mean about the "sketchy rednecks." Every time that I've been out to one of the parks at Lanier to shoot a sunset or comet there's always someone there that makes me a little uncomfortable. When that comet was up earlier this year we were the only people at the park after sunset and an old truck came in and parked right next to my car and left his headlights on, shined right at us as we were trying to take long exposures. I'm packing my Sig on future visits there.

Tim, the experience was one that made me wish I had finalized my GWL...I would not have been as uneasy had my Xd40 been tucked away...maybe I need to pick that back up and take care of it...

Nice star trail shots, Travis! Love the deep blue skies with the trails.

I made it through another quarter, yay! Finals were crazy and I got sick again .. It seems every time something goes around the school, I have to catch it .
Anyway, I have great plans for the break, going to see the Girl with the Pearl Earring at the High before the exhibit closes at the 29th.

And a picture from me, very last one I took before the quarter finished up:

yeah, Petit had to make the list...last one for ALMS so I really want to go.

Carmen, that shot is really well done, the placement of the items and lighting are really nice.

Keep us posted on how you like the 100mm f2.8 macro. I'm thinking of getting that lens too.
