First time poster here. Been lurking on the forum for a while though. My wife and I preparing for our daughter's 1st birthday and I would like to do a shoot using a metal dragonfly chair that is in her nursery. Looking for the typical "lone tree in a field" shot or something with a wide/long landscape. We live in the Cumming/Alpharetta area, but I'm willing to drive. Obviously Georgia is not know for its vast wheat fields and being the start of spring I'm probably not going to find anything with long/tall grass, but I know the perfect shot is out there...

Any suggestions for somewhere I could shoot? Obviously it would need to be something with ease of access or public access.

Thanks!

I'm a little east of you, and there are a lot of great public parks in my area. I'm not as familiar with the ones in the Alpharetta area, but the forsyth county (suwanee/buford area) parks are phenomenal.
I was scouting for something similar to what you described and found this view at Sims Lake Park. This shot is from earlier this month. The trees weren't quite as big as I wanted, but it was the right idea. If not this, though, I would definitely scout around to your local parks. Lots of cute backgrounds, landscaping, fences, bridges, etc. for portraits. Good luck, and feel free to post some of the results when you're finished :)

Wish I could help you on that Joe. I'm sure there is something like that around here.

Just wanted to say welcome and keep us updated on your adventures! We are hoping to get another Meet and Greet in this year and it would be awesome if you can make it!

Thanks to both of you for the responses! I can already tell I'll be around here a ton; SO much good info and so many inspiring photographers.

Welcome, Clemsonjoe! Off the top of my head, I don't know any spots like that either. I'll keep my eyes open, though. I bet there's something that would work around the Kennesaw Mountain battlefield park.

I finally made it down to the Jackson Street bridge yesterday. I'll definitely make it back for morning, sunset, and night shots. I was scouting the city for a spot for a timelapse I would like to try with the upcoming lunar eclipse. Didn't find the perfect spot, but I did learn my way around the city better. It's funny that I spent most of my life in this area but really don't know my way around downtown.

Anyway, here's a shot I thought was interesting from the bridge:

Yes, this is Photoshop World (external link), in Atlanta for the first time. I have to admit, the Galleria seems to have been a pretty good host site so far. I've been to a few other PSWs and was a little worried if the Galleria was big enough. So far, it's seemed pretty good. I saw Harleypugs there the last 2 days. Good to see you Jon! :-)

They wrap it up tomorrow afternoon. It's a pretty good place to pick up some new tips & tricks and to meet folks from all over. I think I heard a lady today say she was from Australia! If they come back, you should at least go check out the Expo. It's free.

I may be fascinated with volcanoes, but the name's Lisa.

went to the expo at the cobb galleria yesterday.

was free to get in by the way. just have to pay to sit in on the lessons.

overall it seemed very well organized and run. it felt a little on the small side as far as vendors are concerned. was cool just to talk to vendors and i got a chance to briefly speak with scott kelby and listen to joe mcnally talk a little bit about a few of his nat geo stories he shot

Good to see you too!

I got to go to the expo today days. Got to hear Arias and McNally. It was cool. Right around the corner from my office. The vendors were a little lacking....good thing it was free to get in.

The Galleria reminded me of the old Linux Expo days....it was great fun.
