Thought I would give y'all a heads up: Next Thursday, January, 21st, there will be a good opportunity to photograph the International Space Station crossing in front of the Moon. It will happen along a line just south of the city ( around 11:20pm (the line will probably change by a few miles either way during this week).
As the week progresses, I'll keep an eye on the centerline prediction and use Google Maps to find a safe place to photograph from.
If anybody is interested in meeting up, I'll be happy to keep you informed.
There are two really good things about this particular transit: 1) The Moon will be 70 degrees in the sky, which means the ISS will be closer to us than in most transits, and 2) the Moon will be 95 percent full. These conditions will be almost identical to the transit I photographed last winter (see my gallery for the photos).
If you would like to photograph it, I suggest at least a 400mm lens.
BONUS: I ordered a Sigma 150-600 today and it should arrive Tuesday or Wednesday. Assuming it does and everything is in working order, I'll be happy to let someone use my 100-400 lens.
I know it's a weeknight and late, but an opportunity this good only happens about once a year in our area.
