I was going to add a 1dsmk2 to my 1dmk2n but decided to go with a 5d, almost 5k less. Well you know what the heck.

Anyway...

I could not get my little girl to sit still long enough but here is one hand held... All i did was open in raw and save out eresized to jpg. I did not run any noise reduction software or nuthin, no sharpening NOTHING! Straight out of camera! I LIKE IT A LOT!

Only thing I already see is a slight shutter lag. Makes me think of my old Sony f707/717 days, well not quit as bad but lag sucks! I will get use to it I am sure, hard switching fro a 1dmk2n to the 5d when I am use to the speed.

I did the same thing. For the price of the 1Ds I got a 5D, an 85 f1.2L, a 35 f1.4L, a 4G CF card, and the TC80N3 release.

The 5D is a great camera and I've been using it extensively. It can't replace my 1DMkIIN, but it's a great sidekick.

I don't see any shutter lag at all (Steve, I'd have your 5D checked out. Any DSLR shutter lag should be impercetible to the average human).

Shutter lags for the various cameras are:

5D - 75ms shutter lag, 145ms blackout time
350D - 100ms shutter lag, 170ms blackout time
20D/30D - 65ms shutter lag, 110ms blackout time
1D - 40ms/55ms shutter lag, 87ms blackout time

35/1000 secs difference would seem to me to be well below the threshold of human perception. I could be wrong though.

I have them both, but got the 5D first. They're a nice combination, eh? Fortunately, I did not have to get used to a slower fps, but a faster rate! :)

While I agree you can't accurately tell how fast the times are, after long term use (thousands and thousands of frames) you can 'feel' that there is a difference. I certainly felt a difference between my 1D, 5D and 350D. The 350D's mirror sure takes it sweet time to come back. The 1D on the other hand has a far more crisp feel. I suppose I am one of those people who are good at telling latencies.. I can't gauge exactly, but I can feel faster or slower.

Human REACTION time on the other hand is around 100 msec - ie. the fastest your finger muscle can push a shutter button after your brain says 'go'. (the stopwatch folks figured this out a long time ago) But I think some of us can tell faster, even though we can't react that quick.

yeah steve, you shouldn't have any shutter lag, when I pull the trigger on my 5d, the picture is taken.

slow af with a lens? Go to manual focus and see if it goes away.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.
