I was shooting some geese at a local lake when a mallard joined the party.

Great action series!! It's really hard to pick out a favorite, but I guess it would be the one where he's just hit the water and it's splashing up.

Yes, 100-400. Just about from the hip, too. I saw him out the of the corner of my eye, and swung and shot. The first shot was blurred, just as he was changing from flying to slowing. Luckily I was focused on that group of geese, so I was pre-focused pretty well.

Thanks CDS. This was my second day of shooting birds in flight, and one of those frames was about frame 250. When spring gets here, I'll be practicing a hell of a lot more, and I'll be trying to beat those gull/quahog shots of yours.

You know, those shots are what really got me going on this "birds in flight" thing.
