I called Canon Tech department and asked them if they had any recalls on the G1 concerning the "loss of power" issue. I have read about dead G1s on several Canon forums and consider it as a future problem for my G1.

The person I talked with said he was unaware of any problems with the G1. When I told him of the numerous post about dead G1s he said he had never heard of of them.

Either he was uninformed of not telling the truth. Either way, I think this is the same attitude that Canon took on the G2 crack issue, until overwhelming evidence forced them to admit to the problem.

I am going to upgrade to a Digital SLR soon but after hearing about the quality of Canon's service departments, my choice will probably be Nikon.

Hey toglenn!

Common don't be so negative! Remember - the posts that you see is experience that several G1 owners had, and can not be used to determine product quality. For example, I don't have any problems with my G1 and find this to be a great camera that producing an awesome shoots, but you won't see a post from me (or 1000s other G1 owners) saying "My G1 is working as Canon promised, no power issues...".

How many posts regarding power issue you have seen? 20, 50, 100? How many cameras was sold world wide? What is the percentage of defective cameras out there?

I agree with you on G2 crack issue - but I haven't heard reports suggesting that Canon will turn it's back on this problem...

You can buy a light bulb and it can blow out on you - sh*t happens... ;)
