I have decided to finally get a digital SLR camera. I have two film SLR's that I love dearly but film and processing is beginning to add up.. So here is my question. What are the advantages of both cameras and is paying the extra money worth it to get the XTI instead of the XT. Thank-you for your help!

Suzanne

You might wanna check this page out:

The megapixel difference is pretty much negligible. The biggest difference I'd say are the addition of the anti-dust mechanism on the 400D, the fact that the 400D is not as noisy at the 350D at the higher ISO's, and the bigger LCD on the back. Then again, the XT can be had for quite a bit cheaper than the XTi these days.

XTi - focus works better

I wouldn't say it focuses better! It does however have more focus points and focuses faster! There are numerous threads with this topic. Do a search to see what others are saying, but I'm pretty sure the consensus is that if you are entering the dslr world and not upgrading from a previous dslr, the difference between the xt and xti comes down to money. If you have the money to get the xti then that is the choice to make. There are upgrades from the xt but it is still a very capable camera to enter the dslr world with! ;)

I guess working faster would be working better!;)

Cheers,
LeBaron

thank-you for your help. I do have enough money for an XTI but if I get the XT I could spend the extra money on lenses...

Get XTi, the extra $150 for XTi is well worth it in my opinion.

It took me about a year to figure this out but you got it straight away! Doesn't matter what body you have it's the lens that is ultimately going to determine the majority of the IQ, focussing speed etc. If I had a choice of an XTI with a 75-300 or an XT with 75-300 USM I know which combination I would go for....

What you need to do now is go out and get what your heart is telling you to get! Sounds like you have the idea to get the XT with some good glass...go do it and never look back before you think yourself out of it! You will love the set up of an XT with a good lense!

Cheers,

On the other hand, you will spend plenty of "extra" money on lenses and other things to the point that the difference in cost between the two models will be negligible. Why heck, the cost of the camera will, in time, be dwarfed by what you spend on accessories.

Just remember, if you get too close to the black hole, you be sucked inn n n . . . . . .

Suzanne,

What do you typically shoot and what is your budget? For some people, the XTi is the way to go, but for others the XT would be a better decision because it would free up funds for better or additional lenses. Unless you shoot a lot of fast-moving objects, the XT might be the better route. Personally, I don't think the built-in sensor cleaning is all that valuable.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

The Xti has more focus points but if you are like me and only use the centre point for 99% of my shots the extra points become irrelevant.

I made the switch from a 350D to a 400D and the biggest factor for me was the rear screen size. Now I know none of us chimp our shots, but if we did, that screen would make a difference ;-)a

Seriously, you are never going to see the true quality of your shot from the rear screen but with the 400D you can see it better. I shoot RAW, use extensive bracketing etc but I still don't feel confident to move on until I've seen the composition on the camera screen. So for me, that was a big plus - for you a 350D may tick all your boxes.

Either way, both are great cameras and you should be pleased to own either. Have great fun and remember to shoot some ducks :D

I have decided to go with the Canon XT. Now I have to decide which lens or lenses I will purchase with it :D. I figure that the lenses will make the most difference and what I don't have (like the larger screen) I won't miss. Thank-you again.
