I caught this eagle doing a little fishing - I just didn't realize he was ice fishing until I got home and took a closer look.

Comments/suggestions always welcome...

Thank you all for the positive comments. This was my 3rd attempt at taking pics of eagles. My wonderful husband bought me the 100-400L for my birthday a couple weeks ago so I am still trying to get used to it as well as learning about the eagles. They are such amazing birds - it was difficult at times to remember to take pictures as I was so taken with their beauty and gracefulness.

Great shot Dalene. I've been trying to capture some eagle shots with my 100-400 but haven't done as well as you have here...nice work. :)

Any chance you could tell us a little about where you were, how close, exif data etc?

Tx.

Hi Westernimmguy:
Thank You. These pictures were shot in Wichita KS on the Arkansas river as it winds its way thru downtown. I'm estimating I was about 30-50 yards from him/her.
I don't know if i'm doing it right - but I extend the lens out to 400 and tighten the zoom ring locking it at that length - I use AF mode is set to AI SERVO, IS on mode 2, and focus range is 1.8- infinity. When they are in flight, I just track them and try to keep them centered in the lens - and shoot in the continuous mode. Good luck.

Here is the EXIF (both shots the same)
Canon Rebel XT / 100-400 L
aperture: f/5.6
iso: 400
flcal length: 400mm (640 in 35mm)
exposure: 0.0003s (1/3200)
exp prog: aperture priority
exp bias: 0
exp mode: 0
white bal: manual
