I want to purchase a external hard drive to store my photos but I know nothing about them. I'm thinking of picking up a 250GB Western Digital My Book Premium today, any one know anything about this product? It also comes with software to back-up the files. Thank you.

Hi. mnbruce
Western Digital make drives as reliable as any other in same price range.
Just be careful where you place the external box, not near a heating vent or strong magnetic source, ie hifi speakers.

There are 10 types of people that understand binary, those that can and those that can't.

I bought the same 250GB Western Digital My Book Hard Drive and I love it. It was a great price for the storage space it has. It's small, no noise, looks good, easy to instal, and I like the fact that it turn on and off with the computer. It's going on 3 months and I had no problems with it, so I recomend it. Let me know if you have any other questions or would like to see a pic :D

OfficeMax has a 300 gig external drive for $120 this week. They also have a 500 gig for $190. Both are USB2.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

The one on Black Friday was the Essentials version (doesn't come with backup software) which I picked up and find it to be a very valuable investment. You can use the Backup utility in Windows or a third party application just the same or just copy & paste.

If you purchase one upon installing it you need to reformat it for NTFS.

Thanks for the responses. The reason I went to Best Buy is a gift card and reward dollars means only $40.00 out my pocket.:)

I'm looking at picking up the 250GB My Book this weekend and wanted to know if you got yours already and what your impressions are of it.

Thanks!
