The 486RC2 is what I use on my Bogen/Manfrotto 680B monopod. It works great for me - quite versatile and plenty strong enough while still very easy to carry.

For a monopod I'm a fan of the Bogen/Manfrotto 3232 Swivel Tilt Monopod Head.

I have the one that you mentioned. Unless you're using a very heavy lens, then it will do you fine.

Thanks for all the help, everyone. The heaviest lends I'll be using is probably the 24-70 f/2.8L. It's heavy, but I think the head can support it.

Not a problem. That lens is not quite 1KG so you still have 5KG (11lbs!!!) of camera equipment to add to the lens lol.

I use mine with a Canon 30D w/ grip and 24-70 2.8 and it works fine. It really holds a lot.
