A speculation thread? *sigh* Ok here's the official scoop from the insider I spoke to who heard from his neighbour who works in the dumpster behind one of the Brooklyn stores.........

.......The great thing about this is that the body will weigh half of what the 1Ds weighs, and cost $400. This will completely sink Nikon and all other camera brands including film manufacturers, and many companies will go bankrupt. To compensate, the CF card makers will increase their prices by 800% and make a killing. Every other company will be wiped out and we will have the future microsoft of the camera world.

So there.

You forgot one important thing - the new Canon will have 3 new buttons ergonomically placed on it - "Control", "Alt", and "Delete". This will allow for fast reboots mid-wedding. :)

My informant says that in response to requests from the owners of the various Internet forums, the camera will be supplied with a new menu function - the 'What lens should I buy' option. You aim the camera at what you would like to shoot and the electronics determine what lens would provide the best results. Sorry, Sigma fans, Canon lenses only. :(

And if you have all the proper wireless hookups, it will send an order directly to B&H. Accurate delivery will be provided if you also have the GPS add-on.

Have Fun

My chum also had an interesting theory that some segment of the digital still camera market will disappear in the future. Digital video will be of such a standard that if you want a still picture, you'll just choose "that frame".

Regards,

That is true for fun snaps, but what about us that want a long exposure, or some similar effect that a frame could not reprosent? What about multiple exposures?

I can tell ya a 10D replacement is due. The 10D and the Digital Rebel are to close in pixel count and all most the same camera minus the 10D's Better body and Custom Functions.

3 days and no speculation!!??

OK, how about this: Digital Rebel Mk II with all the features of the present 10D, but same Digireb body and price. Sorry, Nikon.

EF-S 18-72 mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens. Sold with new 10D and seperately for $160.

EF 13-39 f/3.5-4.5 aspheric USM lens for $350.

10D gets E-TTL II, compatibility with "EF-S" lens, and improved autofocus. New "kit" lens offered for $100 more.

24-80 f/4.0L zoom lens for $700.

560EX flash - more powerful, improved over 550, includes non-TTL auto mode (like the old days)

1DS Mk II - 16 Megapixels, fast, very fine images. $6500.

EF 10 mm f/3.5 USM wide angle for $280.

EF 50 mm f/1.8 goes back to metal mount, improved flare control for $125.

OK, my imagination is now taxed. No more for tonight. :)

It all looks good, but something tells me Canon won't introduce this many things all at the same time - but let's hope I'm wrong.

Does anyone think today's announcement of the Kodak DCS Pro SLR/c changes the picture? How about pricing for a 1Ds replacement? :)

Have Fun

Well, it is pure speculation anyway.

As for the 1Ds replacement, it will cost more than the Kodak because it will be worth more.

I'd like the 550EX with auto-flash and a PC-sync socket.
50mm f/1.8 USM with metal mount, ring USM and distance scale. $80 only.

If only what you say could be true ...
I'm waiting for the new 10D to start my digital age ... I just hope it writes the pics to the card faster than the current 10D ... would come very in handy for sports- and aviation-photography !

Greetz,

New EOS 1Ds Time

A replacement for the EOS 1Ds will be available in October of 2004. At that time, or just before, the current EOS 1Ds will be discontinued. The replacement will have higher resolution and use the same camera body. Obviously, it will have other improved or new features - but I don't know what.
