They all look a touch soft ... do you sharpen after resizing? With EXIF it is tough to make any suggestions but it looks like a great concert!

Look pretty good, but a bit soft as Dwight mentioned.

#1 - My favorite, but don't you hate getting pictures of others taking pictures in yours. I especially hate all the camera phones that people seem to hold up in my way.

#2 - IMO needs to be cropped, maybe vertical to cut out some of the crowd. Also did you use flash on this or was there a light on the crowd, the people are too lit up in the background and is distracting to me.

#3 - Too shallow DOF unless you focused on the face instead of headstock.

#4 & #6 - Nice artsy shots, why does he have safety pins on his sleeve?

#5 - Very good shot, maybe a little overexposed? Is that sweat on his chin or just a glare?

No I don't, I've never really thought about doing it afer I've reduced them Dwight. Conditions for the shoot were'nt great as Mike appeared on a 6ft square stage with only 2 feet all around, between him and the 1500 audience! Saturdays pictures came up a lot better and I'll post them later on another thread!

To be honest I didn't notice the guy bottom right.....

#2 - IMO needs to be cropped, maybe vertical to cut out some of the crowd. Also did you use flash on this or was there a light on the crowd, the people are too lit up in the background and is distracting to me.

This was taken at 64mm without flash and the light on the audience was "bleed over" from the spotlight on him.

#3 - Too shallow DOF unless you focused on the face instead of headstock.

I focused on the headstock, and was aiming at Mike being slightly out of focus........... probably a bit too much looking at it now!

#4 & #6 - Nice artsy shots, why does he have safety pins on his sleeve?

Thanks, don't know why he has the safety pins but it may be either something to do with his starting out as a punk rocker, or the illness he is fighting, leukemia :( I'll find out when I speak to him later this week.

#5 - Very good shot, maybe a little overexposed? Is that sweat on his chin or just a glare?

It's sweat on his chin but it was probably caused by a reflection of the lights off the mic head which I've removed from the picture. I liked the effect when i edited the picture but I'm not so keen now.

I won't bore you with the rationale but you need to try a very light sharpening after resizing ... Rene can give you specs if you want 'em. It really makes a huge difference when posting websize images ... check out my images when you have a spare afternoon or weekend. :-)

I have checked out your images on more than one occasion, and gobsmacked would be the comment to make :D

Thanks for your invaluable help yet again...............

The framing and subject selection is real good...though the focus and/or softness issue is a heart breaker...especially after all that time and effort...Aim for the "eye' and cross your fingers this won't happen as often...Also shoot tons of pics and choose later...

I like #4.
I wouldn't say they are soft, but quite a few are simply not focussed where they should be:
#1: Guitar instead of face. #2: Audience instead of performer. #3: Guitar instead of face. #5 cheek instead of eye; Be aware the actual focussing erea is bigger then the red dot in your viewfinder! This is for a 10D, AFAIK the 20D is similair:

I'm still in a big learning process with this type of photography, having only started doing "music concerts" last November, (with the lighting at these concerts being one of my main problems).

Thanks for your help René, and everyone elses help and comments in here, and with time and a lot of practice, I hope I can better at getting the near "perfect" shot.

I'm going to post saturday's pictures now, so hopefully they are a lot better.
