I'm really surprised there hasn't been more comments on 1.0 announcement and pricing plan.

I've already stated my position on it in another thread, but was wondering how many of you out there are still considering it now, or if you're going to hold off?

To briefly restate my position:

Overpriced.

Considering most of the RAW functionality is going to be duplicated in ACR for CS3, I thought Adobe would price this quite a bit lower and grab some of the PS Elements users, since ACR in Elements is only functional (and that's being nice)

I also think the organzier features would be better if it behaved a bit more like Elements organizer, where you can easily and intuitively search for photos based on multiple tags.

all in all, disappointing from my standpoint. It doesn't offer $300 worth of functionality compared to DPP (free with Canon cameras)

I'm interested in other opinions, including Pros and amatures and beginners.

its the same price as apple's aperture, which is its direct competitor, i mean what did you expect? and adobe is selling it at a lower introductory price if you get it before the end of march, doesnt seem unrealistic to me.

I don't think you've spent enough time with it or understand it fuly if you think its overpriced and not as functional oas those other programs. Its a absolute miracle for many and will save hours and hours of time over the course of a year, not to mention its abilities to make web pages, slideshows and has one of the best printing drivers out there this side of a stand alone RIP.

But as said, most RAW features are there already for CS3 users... and many of them use Bridge for their image management.

And its organizer features aren't as intuitive as Elements...
Best case is Elements + Lightroom for $380-$400 and save a couple hundred over CS3...

I'm coming from point of view, also that they are responsible for essentialy removing Rawshooter and its features from pool of RAW software options... meaning to get those back its a signifigcant price increase.

Introductory prices don't count in my book.
I prefer to wait until reviews from users come in to make final decisions...and by that time price may have jumped back up. Just like I don't plan on jumping into Vista on the first go round.

but lightroom throws all those features in one. basically, if you are doing a ton of work from a shoot, you will save a TON of time by patch processing them and dealing with them all in one program/interface than throwing each one through 3 programs. photoshop will still be needed for advanced editing, but it should save lots of time for the basic stuff.

First off, the organizer was changed between 4.1 and 1.0, so you don't know what it will be like.

This is not a replacement for CS3, its designed to work with it. Yes ACR 4.0 will have many of the same ideas, but it won't be anywhere near as fast to batch, add presets, obtain 3rd party presets etc.

yes, they bought out RAW shooter. But guess what, it wtill works. You don't have to upgrade to Lightroom, its a freebe thrown in there. They are providing a free copy to RAW shooter pro users.

Unfortuantely, I only had Essentials when they bought it out...so I don't have Rawshooter Premium's features... or license. :(

I only had trial version of Premium, which has long since expired.

Maybe the problem is what I'm looking for from Lightroom is a good RAW converter, and I realize Lightroom is more than that, as another user mentioned with its slideshow, web, and advanced print...

It just seems to me there is still a real void in Adobe's product lineup in terms of RAW processing... for me to get decent RAW from Adobe, I either have to go to CS3 or Lightroom at a signifigcant price, since Elements RAW is poor.

This is a good summary...
http://www.photoshopuser.com/?page=lightroom/faq (external link)
Lot's of additional things added to 1.0 that the beta 4.1 did not have.

I ordered it today. $199

I'm moving over to all and only RAW shooting. This will be a foundational tool for that move. I like the way LR "points" to all your files and lets you non-destructively work with them.

I just hope that 1.0's processing is faster. It should be. We'll see.

I was lucky enough to have Rawshooter Premium when Adobe bought it out, and will be getting v1.0 free. I was originally planning to use Rawshooter until I had a newer unsupported camera model, but I will take a serious look at Lightroom...I don't think I would have bought it though. Kinda looking forward to seeing the "final" product.

ok, that makes sense, thats not where I'm coming from but atleast I understand wehre you are at. There are many RAW programs out there, some free, some require a fee. If all you want is a raw converter, I would look elsewhere then.
