ok one more time...

I am only going to list major brands to keep things simple. Please do not vote if you have never owned a Sandisk, Kingston, or lexar. I am not having an "other" option.

Sandisk, however, based only on my opinion, not facts. There probably is a site for consumers somewhere that has the facts.

I had a chat with tech support at a maker of portable storage devices (Wolverine ESP) and they recommend Lexar & Kingston, they say to stay away from Sandisk. They say that almost all units with bent pins had been using Sandisk. Personally I have had only one card go bad, a Transcend, but other Transcend cards have been fine.

6 years of using sandisk, not one lost image or bad card. Have had a lexar go bad.

lexars have had known and reported issues with Canon DSLRs

Computer memory go for corsair everytime, If they made CF or were available readily I would buy nothing else. I have sandisk and lexar CF, both work ok. Had a couple of corrupted images on the sandisk.

Ya think market penetration might have had anything to do with that? I use SanDisk across the board; good solid cards.

So far I'm using Kingston CF for my camera, SDRAM and USB key for PC and I'm very happy with this brand.

SanDisk all the way. But I have also used Lexar and Kingston both without any problems.

I had a similar talk with Wolverine rep and then did my own research, but have not gotten back with him to confirm results of my research.

Sandisk is under attack by a whole lot of fake sandisk cards. I am sure most are aware of this.
In every reported case I could find of bent pin or failed Sandisk it was almost always bought on e-bay at low prices. It was especially true of users of portable devices and P&S cameras.

In none of the professional or DSLR camera forums was I able to find more then rare exceptions of problems with any Sandisk cards that were NOT fake cards. Lexar and transcend was actually reported being bad more often then Sandisk.

The only area I was unable to confirm was that people had bought from legitimate sources and gotten bad/fake cards. I did find some examples from portable device sites that indicate bad cards from legitimate sources, but the evidence was not good enough to convince me that Sandisk has started producing bad cards. But at the same time I was not able to completely dissuade that opinion either.

In discussions with the Wolverine rep he indicated it was only recently produced cards, so my personal experience may no longer be valid, but my research indicates that it still is. Also given the description of why it is happening, I have to say that I find it highly unlikely that Sandisk would be that sloppy as to change how the holes are produced on the cards.

I have 7 Sandisk cards (4x 2GB Ultra II CF, 1x 1GB ExIII SD, 1x 1GB standard CF, 1x 256MB ExIII SD) never had a problem with any of them.

I also have had two Lexar 256MB cards, one of which was washed in the washing machine and one (maybe the same) was accidently soaked in a river. Both still work (or at least they did until I gave them away within the past couple months)

In fact I have never had a CF card or SD card fail on me that was attributable to the card.

But then not one of them was bought on e-bay either.

Just my experience and research for what it is worth,

I know of several legtimate online sellers here in NZ who pulled lots of auctions because they had unknowingly bought fake sandisk cards out of asia, from who they thought were reputable whole salers.
The problem with fake cards is quite wide spread.

On topic though, I have both Sandisk and Kingston cards that are now 7 years old, and have never had any problems. Altough I no longer have much use for a 128mb card :)

So long and thanks for all the flash
