Last night I paid a visit to some relatives and planned to take my 10D along... I went out to my unheated garage with some bulky packages. I placed the camera on my workbench while I loaded the car.

Of course, I forgot the camera and left it on my bench. Today I realized it and went out to the garage to get it. The garage temperature was about -7C / 19F.

To see if the camera worked after being kept below freezing for a full day... I took a picture of the thermometer I have on the wall.... As you can see, it worked :) ...

I know someone who took their 10D to Antartica and it performed faultlessly despite the cold and salt spray.

If it was -7 in the garage, what was the outside temperature?

We got to -24C / -11F overnight so the camera probably did get a bit colder. It hasn't been warmer than -15C outside for over a week now :)

I'm impressed. What kind of charge did the batter register?

It was full.. But I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have provided as many shots as it would have at room temperature :)

:) I use my XTi in well below zero temps all the time, especially since winter here lasts for about 9 months out of the year. I believe the coldest I've used it so far was around -20ºF range. Not extremely cold but still pretty low. Just have to make sure have some warm batteries on hand.

My 20D and 5D have both performed flawlessly in temperatures colder than that. And I have forgotten each of them in the garage overnight without problems (not that I want to make a habit of it).

I believe that my 5D performs better in the cold than I do, although I'm getting used to it again. My return to Ohio was a rude awakening in terms of weather, though most of December was relatively mild.

When it reaches -40°, you can quit specifying C or F.

This is what we call "brisk" weather.

I was out in -40c weather with my 1DmkIIn yesterday for several hours and it worked flawlessly. FIlled 2 2gig cards and battery was still reporting full charge.

Gotta love winter in manitoba!

-40c and -40f are the same temp. It was -20f this morning here in Minnesota but I did not take my camera out to work as I often do.:)
I have already cold weather tested and the camera passed, but I failed.
