Came across a few trinkets from over a decade ago.

I like the second one I think it is the way the knife is in the picture.

I'll try to field this one without it getting too pro-gun.
The 1911a1 pistol is carried in a condition referred as condition 1; or "cocked and locked". the hammer is put in the firing position, and the safety engaged, the way the firearm was designed.

Great shots by the way.

Why is the gun cocked? Ever visit Mogadishu? Other well informed posters gave the right answer-it was designed to be carried that way if expecting to use it.
The shadows were just the way it turned out, but the memories are full of shadows too.
No Russians were harmed in the making of this photo. There was some looting of the State printing offices though!

i like the effect of these photos... i get a definite historical sense from them, almost (though i'm sure not intended) a nostalgic feel...

nice pistol, by the way... did you carry it in "the Mog"? must've been in a civilian capacity, since military 1911a1's aren't hard chromed, and the military doesn't put bumper pads on magazine floorplates... ;)

Actually some of the military does use magazines with bumper pads on 1911s. The pictured pistol was not carried there, they wouldn't let me bring my issued pistol back. I was not in the military at the time.

As long as you came home from that mess, that's what counts.

God Bless.

Thanks Boxlock and thanks for all the comments. I didn't go there as an innocent and didn't come back as one. A group of people tried to help another group of people and it didn't turn out too well because a lot of the people we tried to help were doing well oppressing their countrymen.
It is a story that has been and will be repeated again and again. I'd rather let the viewer take what they will from my simple little pic, and any commentary I have is just a tiny and unimportant footnote to history. I'm glad I went and tried though, it means something to me and ultimately, I hope, to humanity.
