I tried this thread in another forum and got some interesting responses so I thought I'd try it here...

What, in your opinion, is the most useless feature the camera manufacturers have included in their cameras? I'll start with the Direct Print feature and pop-up flashes... I also have little use for the White Balance Shift and bracketing.

You won't get any surprises here - direct print will win with a landslide

For me, it is easily the Direct Print button. I can't imagine ever printing directly from the camera without doing any post-processing at all, especially since I shoot everything in RAW format. I wish someone would come up a hack to make that button programmable. Or better yet, I wish that Canon would add that functionality in a firmware update.

The most useless feature on my cameras? Too often it's the shutter release. :p

Here's my list:

- DPOF button (especially since you can't use it for anything else)
- White Balance Shift (good option but hard to pick the correct setting)
- Black and White, Sepia and all other similar PP options
- Picture Styles
- Ability to save at lower resolutions and quality levels.
- White Balance Bracketing (same reason as WB Shift)

Agreed with the Direct Print button. I wouldn't even use this button on my SD700. As for Picture Styles, I can see that coming in handy.

For me the direct print button (i dont even know who decided that was a good idea for a DSLR...), AI Focus, and all the basic modes.

heres a thread about this from a while back

I can see the possibility of using the direct print feature in the field if I had a portable printer and wanted to give a print to someone. Often when I am travelling, somebody will ask me to send them a copy if I ask permission to take a photo. Being able to give them a copy right away would be better.

To me the most useless feature on my 20D are those pictures of mountains, people, runners, green rectangles, etc. on the dial where you set Av, Tv, M or even P if you want fully automatic. It would be much more useful to have an easy way to engage mirror lock up.

For me, it's the voices that come out of the 5D's battery compartment....it is really annoying!

Direct print should have been hidden in the menu somewhere or at least make the button programable to something else.

The direct print button is a complete waste of space.

I can see the use for printing straight from the camera. For example a set up in a shopping mall shooting Santa photos. You just want quick, dirty prints at 6x4 and the in camera settings will be enough.
But, you don't need the direct print button to do it.
My A80 can print direct from the camera, and it dosn't have a direct print button, its simply a menu option.
As far as I can tell, all the direct print button on my 30D does, is take you directly to that same menu option.
