These are a few shots that I took with a few friends of mine during our road trip down to San Diego. I have more to add, will post them later. Your comments are welcome.
Thanks
Jerad

Hey Jerad,

I like #1 and #6 the best - the big tubes ... pipes ... whatever they're called ... really add to the feel.

In general, I'd say shoot tighter and supply us with bigger pics for our viewing pleasure - kinda hard to see at 450x300.

Thanks!! Yeah i could post some larger res I guess. I covert all of my favs over to 450 because I post them on my myspace and 450px width is the best for the two columns on myspace. There are 900px versions on my website http://jeradhill.com (external link) if you click categories and choose sports from the drop down you will find them.
As far as shooting tighter, I agree in my normal sense but in skate photography it seems that the surroundings are almost as important as what the skater is actually doing. Whenever I shoot tight I do not get as many kudos from skaters as I do when I shoot wide. The whole idea of choose simple backgrounds so the eye does not deviate from the foreground subject goes out the window in this situation...
Thanks!!

Very nice Jerad. I myself used to skate very seriously. I can still bust out quite a few tricks from the bag. I am wondering what lens you were using for these? Great stuff man!

I was using the canon 15mm fisheye but on a 30d so it wasn't really true 15mm.

They look good - we want bigger images though so we can really drink 'em in!

I have taken photos for a number of skaters and whenever we go shoot I have them bring a few different color shirts. I doesn't hurt to have them around especially if you want to help make your subjets pop out of the backgrounds. Dark shirt and dark background usually don't attract as much attention.

The first two look wicked cool, great job displaying thier surroundings, but the skaters are kind of hard to see... they blend into the back grounds.

8 and 9 on the other hand are perfect! I love your style, nice strong highlights, powerful blue skys with the vignette... awesome stuff! I wouldn't be surprised to see your images in a magazine one day. :-)

Thanks! I really appreciate all of the comments. I used to skate in my teen years but I am far to afraid to blow out another knee so I don't mind staying behind the camera. I was a horrible skater anyway :p

In the future I will keep in mind the clothing contrast to the backgrounds. I really had no idea where we were going, I was just along for the ride, well I was driving and it way my rental car so technically they were along for the ride. I had never been to those skate spots before. I plan to go back during the summer, I would have loved to be at those large pipes at night when I could set up some lighting, oh the amazing shots I could have got if I had time to set up the lighting...

Anyhow, i am planning a trip to the Sacramento Skate park with a couple of guys in a few weeks. Anyone who is interested in shooting with me is more then welcome to come along. The 2 last shots I posted with the vinette are from Sac Skate park.
