I like my 20D, also. I don't really need a bigger chimp screen.

As most have already said, the two are very similar in features. I was in the same position you are currently in until I found a pristine 20d :D w/the kit EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 lens, Canon Deluxe 200 tripod, Tamrac backpack, and a couple of extra "how to" books, all for $500.00 on eBay. I originally was considering a new Rebel, but really needed the 5 fps for fast action (horse jumping). Since I was on a budget and found a "deal" on my 20d, it allowed me to also purchase my EF 80-200 f/2.8 L (also on eBay for $511.00), and a larger backpack to accomodate the large lens. I could have purchased a 30d body w/the kit lens, but that would have busted the budget for now. It all boils down to wallet size I guess. Depending on your budget, I think it would make more sense to save some $$$ on the 20d, then spent the $$$ saved on a better (or additional) lens.
Good Luck!
Jeff

20D, the extra features of the 30D aren't worth it.

The larger screen and 1/3 ISO stops is enough for me to recommend the 30D over the 20D -- oh yeah, no more Err99 with the 30D -- which is fairly common with the 20D

I have had both and they are equally nice to use. I think the 30D has a higher shutter life? So this could be a consideration if buying second hand.

Shutter life's the same. And personally, I find the larger folders a nuisance; I end up subdividing mine into 100-shot folders which are a better size for live backups.

Get the newer camera, always. Even if you get a used camera, I'd recommend getting the most up-to-date you can manage.

I didn't vote because it's to vague of a question. If you're upgrading say, from a 350, then go ahead with the 30D. If you currently own a 20D, just buy the glass. In the hands of the right person, the 20 or the 30 would be just fine.

If you've already got a 20D (like me), there's really no need to get the 30D.

Had to vote for 20D since mine is in the mail (can't wait till Monday). I shot mostly manual so spot metering isn't that important. Would have liked to have the extra ISO stops, but couldn't justify extra cost purely on that.

I had to say 20d... use the extra money you save on other lenses/accessories.

Faster buffer, bigger LCD, spot metering. I mean for the extra $100, why not? That's pretty much what brought me to getting the 30D.

In this choice all boils down to money.
Otherwise why will you even consider a choice.
Nobody will go for an older model if the new replacement model is available.
No reported issues on the 30D to make the 20D a better option.
If you do have the money it really will make no sense to buy the 20D.

I just got a 30D recently and I research the hell out of most things before I buy. It boils down to money and aesthetics. I like the bigger screen, because people want to see their picture afterwards. I also wanted new, refurbished or dealer demo kinda scares me.
