My CRT bit the dust, so I purchesed a new Samsung SyncMaster 204b flatscreen. Is there anything I should do to it to ensure I am getting the best image during photo editing. I have yet to read the owners manual. Thank you in andvance for your help.

Buy a monitor calibration kit _ at least the Pantone Huey as its quite affordable and has been serving me very well.

Agreed. I just picked up a Dell LCD and while I trust my eye that I have it pretty good I have a Spyder calibration kit on order.

If you're using a mac, it should have a profile already built-in to the Mac OS. You may need to calibrate it periodically, but my experience is that the Samsungs play very nicely with Macs. If you only plan on using one monitor, the Spyder2Express is an economical way to go (for both Macs and Windows).

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

A calibration kit is going to be my next purchase. I was mostly wondering if I needed to adjust any of the factory settings for image manipulation (Photoshop). I will be reading the owners manual this evening. Thanks for your help.

Another vote for monitor calibration. LCD's don't drift as fast as CRT's tend to but you could see a significant difference once you've calibrated it. The Spyder 2 seems quite good.

cheers
