Camera 'mileage check-ups' ? ? ?

I have a 30D which I have grown to love. Been shooting a lot since July when I got the camera. I just passed the 10,000 mark on images taken this past week.

I've heard of people talk about the 'shutter' life on these and needing to replace 'shutter boxes' and all...

Is there something I should know or be worried about regarding the number of pictures taken on this cameara? I would hate to think I'm wearing out a camera that is only 7 months old.

Any input would be appreciated.

for me personally,

i will just send the camera in for a checkup before the 1yr warranty expire

and i guess there's no way around the "unfilled warranty card" cause canon would want a copy of the reciept as well right???

Cameras are tools...they are meant to be used. Like any mechanical device, a shutter can eventually wear out and fail. Don't worry about it...just take pictures...if you have a shutter failure...you box up the camera, ship it off to Canon and in a few days it is back to you as good as new...and you wallet is only slightly lighter...too much is made of shutter failure...the average time between failure on 30Ds is 100,000+ activations...

Don't worry about shutter life. Enjoy your camera. Use it. I've seen estimates of shutter life all over the park, but almost all agree it's tens of thousands, maybe many tens of thousands. Some shutters will fail early, others will last seemingly forever. Don't let that interfere with your enjoyement.

If the worst happens, and it's after the warranty period,a couple hundred bucks will make everything better anyway. It's not worth the worry.

As long as you change your oil and filter every 3,000 miles you should be good to go.

You'll probably sell it to upgrade long before the shutter fails. They won't replace the shutter for you under warranty if it's not broken.

If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!

I don't understand all this concern over shutter life in today's cameras. Are the DSLR bodies so much more delicate than the camera that were produced as recently as 20 years ago? I have an old Mamiya 35mm that is almost 40 years old. I can't even begin to imagine how much film I ran through that camera over the years and it still functions quite well. It has some issues, mostly from not being used much in the last 10 years, but I could put film in tomorrow and it would still take a good picture.

People shoot 10x more with digital then with film....personally I shot 20x more since moving to a DSLR....so it is no amazement that an old camera will have no shutter issues....each digital capture is free! The cost of film makes people more mindful of pressing the shutter button...it costs $$.

The community school lends out cameras, Pentax K1000 I believe, which are nearly thirty years old. Id be surprised if the all havnt had more than 100,000 pictures on them and Im told they only occasionally toss them out. If you pay $300 for shutter repair and get 100,000 shots you're essentially paying $.3 per shot compared to film $.14 per shot with a $5 roll of 36. And you have to pay before you take the pictures, not after. Digital is the good life

how do you know the number of actuations on the shutter?
my folder is 104 and image number 0668
the camera is rather new, so I'm guessing that's 668 is the number of actuations, but I wasnt sure if the folder number mattered.

The only way to know is to own it from the start and keep really good track by setting the file numbering to continuous and never use different memory cards.

Or get a 1 Series and the CanCount program (which doesn't work with anything but 1 Series bodies).

BTW...what part of SCPA? I'm in Ship.

well i've owned it from the start... I do switch memory cards though.
I'm in Lancaster Now... moving to Dillsburg in March.
