Hi gang

Just got my 24-70L back from Canon Irvine. I have to give them thumbs up for fast turn around. I dropped it off on Monday and they mailed it back to me today, Friday. I decided to drop it off to them when I brought down my camera for cleaning, just because I thought the focus might be soft here and there.

I won't get the chance to test the lens until tonight, but there was a note on the invoice that said:

"service details: Replaced SLEEVE ASSY FIXED COLLAR. PROJECTION TEST. CLEANED ELEMENTS. CK/ADJ/LUB/ ALL FUNCTIONS TO FACTORY SPECS."

Does anyone know what the "replaced sleeve assy fixed collar" means? I called Canon, but I didn't get much insight. Anyone else have that done and know why they would do it? I notice now that the focal length ring is a bit tighter when moving from 28mm to 24mm than before, but maybe this is how it should have been in the first place.

thanks!

I have the same lens with softness problems between F 2.8 and 4.5.I'm considering sendind it in for recalibration. It just seems the the pictures that I take in that range are slightly off focus. Please post some before and after images. As far as the invoice, there are so many moving parts in it would be hard for anyone but a repair tech to give a detailed description.
Post your opinion on the results of the repair. After owning this lens for about 6 months,I'm a little dissapointed with it.I expected a little more for my money.I liked the idea of using the 2.8,but whats the point if the images are out of focus. Thanks for listening to my rant.

I would assume a sleeve assembly is one piece fitting into another (like where elements move in and out) and there would be a collar at the end where they meet when completely retracted...just a guess. Perhaps something wasn't moving well enough, hence soft focus, so they replaced it.
