If you're buying it new, chances are it's a newer model. There is no designation of new vs old.

I'm still debating on one of these. I had 'em on my XTs as they were pretty much essential for comfort...but not so much on the 10D/30D. But I wish I have one when I shoot sports...but then I'm too cheap to spend the money. LOL.

I´m thinking about buying a grip for my 20D too, but I was also considering an Opteka - does anyone have any experience with Opteka + 20D ? Thank you

I am not sure that they make one for the 20D.

I also thought that they don´t make it, until I have found it there...

I have recently bought a 20D batt grip with 2 non oem high capacity 511a batteries from a company called link delight (chinese)who advertise on ebay, this product is excellent in every way, build quality as good as canon unit but at much less cost, no problems with delay on the added release button, this company have an excellent feed back record and I would recommend them

Having read many of the threads regarding the error 99 problems that some have experienced with the 20D and the BG-E2 I must be just lucky as I purchased 2 new 20D's just over 2 years ago and a BG-E2 for each of them, the grips remained fitted to both bodies and I only ever had cause to remove one of them once when I overtightened the thumb wheel and stripped a few teeth from the nasty plastic cog that drives the metal threaded pin that attaches the grip to the body, worth bearing in mind that it is not difficult to over tighten them, but a surprisingly inexpensive fix to order a replacement dial assembly from canon, only £10 here in the UK + the carriage (canon part # CG2-1365-000000)
Well I can with hand on heart say that throughout the time I had the two 20Ds I only ever had one error 99 and I am sure that was a result of the battery door not being completely closed.
Not sure if the fact I never removed the grips has kept me free of the problems others have had but I still have one of the two 20D's as a second body and the grip is where it has been from day one, firmly attached to the camera.

Neil
