IMO 50mm on a 1.6x body is not wide enough. Use the 18-55 and a tripod.

i guess i just really didnt want to lug a tripod in there its going to be crouded prob you dont think the 28-135 would do ok even at 1.6x its only 45mm i might just bring a few lens's with me to see what works best

I'll sell you my 17-85:) jk. I used that to NY autoshow last year and it was good for the most part. (minus the distortion at wide end)

the lighting is HORRIBLE in the convention center.. bring a flash or tripod and you'll need a very wide lens so you can get up close in front of the crowd. 50mm is to long. the 18-55mm will work better..

Have fun :)

12-24 would be a good lens? or would i need something past 24mm? I want to take some shots when they come to NY in march or april.

At the Montreal Autoshow I used my 18-55mm. I was mostly at 18mm-28mm, F3.5-5.0, ISO 800, 1/20-1/100sec and hand held.

I wish I had a 10-22 or 12-24.

A 17-55 IS would've been good as well.

oh yeah, neat image or noise ninja is needed afterward

I'd say you should stay under 20mm. If had one, I'd suggest the 17-40L with a flash, but no such luck :)
