DPP new release? ACR 4.0?

Sorry if I got your hopes up!!!

Just wondering if anyone has heard if there is a new version of DPP in the pipeline, and what new features we might have?

If rumors of 40D are true, they will probably come out with new version just to include support for it at least.


Also, anybody hear if the next version of ACR (4.0 I think) which comes out with CS3 will improve the Camera Raw support for Photoshop Elements.

(We elements users have Camera Raw, but with limited functionality.)

I doubt Adobe would "add" functionality to PSE that isn't already in PSE 5. Just like Canon dSLRs you need to give users reasons to buy more expensive products.

I dont think adobe is going to upgrade their PSE 5 so soon after it came out.

You're probably right...

I was thinking it was the Camera Raw Plugin that recognized Elements and limited its own functionality (since its the same plugin thats used for CS2)... but it very well may be that the functionality has to be built into elements itself

I highly doubt that Canon will improve DPP much beyond support for any new bodies that get announced. They are afterall, a camera company, not a software company. They could seize upon an opportunity and come out with something similar to Nikon's Capture NX software which is quite nice but they charge for it. I wouldn't have an issue with have an option of using a bare bones DPP as we see it now or being able to purchase Canon software that has a much smoother UI.

On the first point, I agree, however, Nikon is also a camera and optics company, and before they went and partnered with NIK Software to develop NX, they had their own version of Capture, which was still a nice enough program, albeit very, very slow.

There is no reason Canon cannot come up with a new DPP with at least some of the obvious faults being corrected, most notably the issue with IPTC data, and DPP stripping of it upon conversion to jpg. That's just simply unacceptable.

As I said before, I will continue to use DPP because it still gives me the output I like, but I sure wish Canon would improve it's feature set.

I predict Canon will release an upgrade to DPP within 30 days of when they announce a new DSLR.

Logic is based on they probably will have to so DPP will work with that camera. At that time they will also probably fix some features and maybe add more.
