I was shooting last night, and then all of a sudden my 30D wouldn't take a shot, I checked the top LCD, and I get a "ERR CF" error. I checked to see if my photos had been corrupted, and when I press the preview button, the images all seem to be gone, and on the 2,5" LCD it says "no image".

!!???

I plugged my camera into my computer, and the EOS Utility reports no images on the card. I put the CF card into a card reader, and it reckons it's not formatted!

My 30D and CF card are only 4 months old. Does anyone know whether:

(a) I can retrieve my images?
(b) I can re-use the card (not that I'd really trust it)

I wouldn't re-use the card. A similar thing happened to me on my 300D, I managed to get 90% of the images off it, but I lost some good ones. It was replaced under warranty.

I'm trying Lexar Media Image Rescue software, and when I select IMAGE RECOVERY -> Recover Images, it tells me the path is invalid.

When I try and browse the card (via My Computer), it tells me the card isn't formatted.

Would anyone know whether I should format the card, then try and recover the images?

EDIT: FOUND A SOLUTION!!

I got my images back! I tried PC Inspector Smart Recovery, and it's taking it's time, but my images are back! The software is great - thanks Attic!! :)

I'll take my CF card back this week - keep y'all posted.

Glad it worked, my Dayughter deleted all my photos on one of my cards and I was able to get them back using this software. It's a bargain for zero bucks.
