I'm thinking of ordering some more stuff from BH and was looking at the Canon Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3 mostly for macro shots. I kind of like the fact that I can do timed shots too since the 5D doesn't have that feature. Does anyone know how long this thing has been out on the market? The reason I'm asking is because I plan to get the 5D replacement when it comes out, but don't want to spend too much on accessories like this cable if it won't fit the future 5D replacement.

The N3 connector has been used on the mid-range (anything above Rebel) to their Pro bodies for quite a while. I don't imagine that Canon has any plans on replacing that standard.

Thanks for the info...guess that's going to be another item I'm going to put in my shopping cart.

Just wondering if anyone has the IR remote release. It's $400, so I'm having a hard time buying one of those unless someone has it and loves it. I just can't think of too many times when I would need to remotely release the shutter.

If you want a wireless release, picvk up a pair of Pocket Wizard transcievers and a connector cable. They're radio, not IR, so longer range and they can be used either to remotely trigger your camera or to fire your flashes wirelessly from the camera.

If you don't need "industrial strength" PWs, i.e. need light, occaisional use, you may want to consider some of the wireless triggers on ebay.

I have the Adidt R3, from about 1-2 years ago. They have currently dried up from the 2 vendors which were offering them. They both state they are waiting for a new model. It was ~$90 and works very well as both a wired and wireless trigger.

I did see this write up on a add'l unit: http://photonotes.org/reviews/radio-remotes/ (external link) It's only ~$25 (search "link delight wireless" on ebay). At that prie I may order it, just to keep in a bag as needed.
