Watching the cars

This 10 second shutter was taken after a rather nice sunset in Mallorca last year.
Exposure: 10s, f/4.5, 146mm, no flash, resting on a wall.

I think I may be late, since it's 7:30am EST...I think I'm 5 hours behind GMT. But either way I wanted to put one up...not my best but one I had handy that I like.

Don't have Exif on this comp either...I look at other programs on here and edit the post if I get it.

Auto sharpen with Irfanview, and resize. I believe it was around a 10 sec shutter, cuz I was doing trailing lights on the highway then turned around and saw this so I shot it.

The challenge is now closed. I will post the results in a couple of hours, as I am busy for the morning.

Gerald, I will accept your last minute post because I could not close the challenge before now.

Thanks for all the entries everyone. You sure do not make it easy on a judge.

First Place: Snowrdr – Scoggins Creek
Second Place: Novaheart - Warp Speed
Third Place: Riddie - Natures Brushstrokes

Honourable mention to:
Stefan A - Great shot
Mgw189 - Very colourful
Spur - Very Creative

Stefan A - Smokey Mountain Stream; I like the picture, but the highlights in the water are a little distracting. Adjusting the highlights and shadows slightly would have made this a winner.

Mgw189 – Behind the Scenes; Very nice picture, I love the colour in the lights. I can’t get over the trailer and the crane though. My eyes are drawn to them too much. If those silhouettes weren’t there this would contend very well.

Neurosis2 - One of the Local Expressway; The colours seem to be slightly off to me. There is a brownish hue that takes away from the overall effect of the shot. It could be from the colour of the street lamps.

Sw1977 – Laser Equipment; I find the light on the sand too bright and distracting from the photo overall, very creative though.

Spur - Seven Seconds; I would have to say this is the most creative shot I have seen in awhile. Very well done. It looks either slightly out of focus or blurred though, just enough to distract the eye.

Edd S – Light Bright; Who could resist that smiling face. If you had been able to spell “Tom Rules!!” backwards (without mirroring the image in pp) this would be the winner hands down.

Snowrdr – Scoggins Creek; What can I say, I love this shot. Blow it up as big as you can and frame it. Nice shot.

Bastion - The Dancing Flame; The flame is too bright in my opinion and takes away from the overall effect. I think maybe less is more in this case.

Paul B - Double Burst; I can’t tell if it is because of the light, or the focus, but the fireworks don’t look that sharp.

O_T - Flags; Great shot. I think if the sky was deeper and the poles were not angled the shot would be more dramatic.

Novaheart - Warp Speed; Terrific capture. I love the effect. You can feel the speed in the picture. Good job freezing the barn and making everything else blurred. It would only help the picture to pp out the wire in the top left corner though.

Gewb - 6:03AM; This is what I see at 6:03 am too, everything is usually all blurry. It would be nice to know what it actually is though.

Mommytomjm – A Perfect Burst; Great first challenge post. This shot is like one of those magic eye hypnotic pictures. I end up staring in the center going cross eyed trying to figure out whether it is moving or not. Then it gets burned into my eyes and I see it everywhere.

Roddie - Natures Paintbrush; Another beauty. Very abstract looking.

Mishnogram - Candle on Finest China; Very creative. Did you pan the camera or move the candle? I can’t help but get distracted by the reflections in the background. I would black them out.

Jeece – Natures Morte (still life); Nice shot, again I think that less is more. The light trails seem to clutter the top of the basket.

Benarnold – Watching the Cars; Great effect, I think it is too tight of a shot though. Leaving more area around the wall and maybe seeing the entire head and shoulders of the figure would make this more interesting a shot.

Gerald-NC – (no title); For future reference, all challenge entries should be exactly 800px on the long side. This fell short at 790, also always post entries with the title in the subject/title heading box. However the shot is good. The steeple is slightly blown out by the light though, adjusting the highlights and shadows here would make the picture stand out more.

Lets have it Snowrdr. Your shot was well deserved of recognition so now it's up to you this week.

Thanks everyone for all the great entries. I hope I haven't been to critical of anyones entry. This is simply my opinion and coments on how I would make the photo better.

Thanks for the Hon. Men. I don't see how you can say it's out of focus though unless you are not looking at the final entry. All I can think of is your looking at the shot from earlier in the week and didn't look at the one from Saturday.

Nice job snowrdr beautiful shot.

Thanks for the comments about my photo. Yeah, I definitely over exposed too much. I don't know that PP would fix it without messing up the rest of the shot. But my PP skills are limited. Still, it's the only shot of mine that I have on my wall right now.

Oh wow, my oppologies Spur. Very sharp! I didnt have the net on my laptop this morning so I was judging the photos I downloaded from the thread on friday. I had double checked before posting the results, but didnt notice a change. Im sure I would have noticed that update, its practically night and day. Please accept my appologies, very sharp photo, and VERY creative.

It isnt bad by any means, and I loved all the green. I ran it through photoshop and adjusted the highlights slightly and it took the 'bright' look out quite nicely. Definately a great shot though.

Haha I read it as "no bigger than 800 on the longest side" ;) So I made it 790. Last minute, forgot to include a title. No biggy, just wanted to get entry up and see the comments.

Congrats to the winners!

Hello Thomas -

Thanks for a fun topic!

You asked:
"Gewb - 6:03AM; This is what I see at 6:03 am too, everything is usually all blurry. It would be nice to know what it actually is though."

Bright white: on-coming headlights.
Bright red: tail lights (passing vehicle).
Yellow gold: side markers (passing vehicle).
See the small green near the upper right? What's a mile marker sign.
"Foggy" white: lane marker lines on the freeway (illuminated by my headlights)

75 miles per hour, six second exposure, hand-held, rotated 180 degrees during the exposure.

Regards,
GEWB

Thomas S. thanks for the comments, the shot was just a candle in the dark and then I moved the candle with a couple of seconds to go of the exposure. I was trying to do something a little more creative but the grammy's got in the way. Great entries everyone, specially the folks with the water movement shots (something that I haven't been able to do yet). Congrats to the winners.
