Thanks for the comments Thomas. I wish I had left it lighter, so you saw more of the subtleties in the flame, but I decided to go darker on the background in order to get rid of the little bit of blur that was left by my hand. Trying to move faster to get rid of my hand in the shot all together resulted in the lighter going out, lol

I came across these forums while doing research for my new P&S canon. Seems like a good community and the challenge was a great chance to break in the new SD800. Looking forward to the next challange! :)

Gerald, I could be mistaken, but Ive always thought it's 'exactly' 800px. (thats what everyone posts anyways.

Gewb,

You asked:

Bright white: on-coming headlights.
Bright red: tail lights (passing vehicle).
Yellow gold: side markers (passing vehicle).
See the small green near the upper right? What's a mile marker sign.
"Foggy" white: lane marker lines on the freeway (illuminated by my headlights)
Regards,
GEWB

I was thinking of lights in the bedroom when you wake up (stereo light, clock, etc) then got to thinking about doing the same effect with the light from the alarm clock, then wondered what it actually was.

Bastion, great first post to the forums. Welcome. You will get addicted very easily (just ask my girlfriend). It takes guts to make your first post in a challenge. Keep it up.

Thanks for the Hon. Mention. I titled the shot the way I did because of the crane and trailer. Something that not everyone thinks of or about when they go to the fair is what it takes to keep them running.

:D Second place woohoo! I thought about taking out the wires but didn't get to it. I didn't think I did that good a job at removing the mirror but I guess it was good enough for you  You make it sound like I intentionally tried to keep the barn in focus, to be honest, I didn't even know there was a barn there until I looked at the picture  It was complete luck!

Great subject this week Thomas, I really enjoyed all the pictures, there's some very creative people here! I'd just like to say I really like it when the judge gives a small critique of all the entries like this, it gives some insight into their thought process and helps people figure out how their photos appear to others.

Congratulations to all the entrants for taking quality pictures, and the winners for, well, winning. My favourite this week was Roddie's - I like the colours and texture in the river, and the effect reminds me of some old Impressionist paintings.

I am by no means a great photographer, as I am still aspiring myself. I just tried to look at the pictures each time as if it were the first and give the first impression that came to mind. Alot of the time it was 'wow' or 'neat' so I had to look a little deeper. I wasnt trying to be too picky, and I hope my critiques were of some help. I always love getting feedback on my shots more then the often 'nice shot', so I tried to give as much feedback as I could. (It took awhile too.)

Novaheart, Im guessing the mirror would have been in the lower left corner of the picture. This is also the closest area to the camera and effectively the most blurred. Good job removing it.

Thankyou for the "bronze", amazing what you get when you press the shutter. Thomas 'long exposure' was a great subject that certainly brought out the creativity in us. Congrats to Snowdr, great picture, and a 5 sec shutter too! Betcha had to stand real still in that water! I really liked the entry the Spur sent, very creative, and that shot of Stefans has always been one of my favourites. Well done all, good shooting! Everyone take a bow!
