I had a vision.

I see so many threads asking "what lens should i get" "how is this lens".

I'm sure someone here has the knowhow so here is my idea.

We list all canon and sigma lenses (and any others that may be popular) and for each lens we have differnt aspects to which we can rate from 1-10.

colors
contrast
bokeh
sharpness
Focus(ing)

etc etc.

And then giving a final rating for each one.

The votes are averaged up of course...i tihnk you all see where i'm going with this.

A nice Idea.. but isn't there allready one of these out there (trying to find link...)

Here,. Photozone;
http://www.photozone.de/2Equipment/easytxt.htm#F300 (external link)

Similar Idea with averaged results... but it isn't an active database.. nor do we know where the reviews came from....

Also... there are the user reveiws at Fred Miranda..

The resources are out there for sure.

I thought PhotoZone was current. Well, as least the Lens Performance Surveys section, here (external link), which are entered by users. Quick info, certainly not in depth.

CDS do you *know* this is not current? Or were you thinking of http://www.photodo.com/nav/prodindex.html? (external link) I *think* PhotoDo might not be current, but I'm not sure.

Because none of them were what i had in mind.

I have no idea whos opinions those were, nor was i able to vote and voice my opinion.

I can build any kind of database services here, like just did the Digital Photo Gallery Database (over 8000 page hits in few days already, but people are a bit timid to add their data there yet) so if you have good ideas let me know. The gallery database acts also as gear USAGE rating.... and it seems Canon DSLR is very popular choice now.

Also,. as Pekka's Gallery databease includes searchable lens and camera info,. to some extent you can use the galleries to judge for yourself.

(ie; Search for EF 17-40mm f/4 L and then check the galleries that the search returns.. you will be able to look at a bunch of images taken with the lens by different users.. ! :) )

Thats great, i have no idea how any of it would work let alone how hard it would be set it up.

I have looked around a bit at your gallery and it turned out great. I do intend on putting some stuff up there i'm just too lazy :-\
