if your just getting started Amova/dynatran tripods off ebay are a good value.
but the 3021 legs+488rc2 is way better imo

Well your first suggestion is a good quality combo, but I would recommend you do a search on Dynatran here and see what you can buy that's comparable for the money. Just about everyone here who has ordered a dynatran has been very happy, they are great products and an excellent value.

I just ordered the tripod and head combo that you are asking about. Everyone seems to give great reviews on both the tripod and head. Mine should be coming in on wednsday!

Its a good set up that will last you a long time. I'm very happy with my 055CLB & 488RC2 combination. If you need a monopod as well the 680B & 486RC2 is a nice combination as well.

I'd really like to get you interested in the Bogen/Manfrotto 3021BPro (known as the 055ProB outside the U.S.) topped off with the Bogen/Manfrotto 488RC2 ball head. That's what I have been recommending for a very versatile general-purpose tripod for quite some time. Many people have agreed with my recommendation.
