Yep, I hate branches. It's like the birds just knew I was there taking pictures, so they posed ever so nicely... behind anything possible.

Lesson learned today - Backlit blackbirds are impossible. This was the only one even remotely sidelit. Next time I'm bringing watershoes so I can walk around some more. Either that or I've got to find larger pieces of dry land...

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Your Blackbird is a great photo :)

...the little woodpecker.. :(

You must be heartbroken.. that would have been an absolutley PERFECT shot :(
Last summer I took about 60 shots of some Cedar Waxwings in one afternoon.. des[erately trying for a decent shot.. I never had a single "poster" in the bunch ... those little birds are very hard to get.

The blackbird... One of 3 singing for me, a good 15 minutes chasing them, wishing I could walk on water. 45-50 shots, 2 keepers - and the other was the shot right before this one.

Oh, the woodpecker was a grand old chap. He might have been 12 feet away. We danced for 5 minutes - I moved one way, and he'd dodge behind another branch. Eventually he got tired of teasing the human.

When I got home I found that I had taken only ONE picture of him.

I hate them as well, and the B*** of it is that when your looking through your lens at someting "rare" the branches you can hardly see is rarely the first thing on your mind. Or maybe its' just me, and maybe thats what seperates the good from the great

Scott,
I hope you don't mind but I wanted to try my hand at removing the branch in your shot. Leo has been bugging me to learn PS and get more creative. I think I screwed up a little...............

I love this woody shot Ian
he looks terrific boring holes

without the branches we would'nt have seen any birds because they need a perch...

'give the branches a break' day

Why the heck isn't there a "shaking head, rolling eyes" emoticon?
