I went out to Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge today. Walking around, not see much of anything beyond a couple blackbirds, and a single swan. I spent 20 minutes on the shore, wishing that swan would do *something* besides dunk his head. He wasn't playing to the camera, so I moved on.

A few minutes later a tremendous noise came from behind the trees, a veritable cacophony of honking and flapping. Within seconds, about 400 or 500 geese swooped over the treeline and splashed down, surrounding the swan.

Remember that I said I had moved on...
:(

500 geese and all I got was this.

Later, one posed somewhat, busily ignoring the ruckus behind him.

Scottes, your first picture of the geese in flight really came out nice and sharp. And with just the right amount of lighting, too! Just perfect! :D

You should be very happy, because that first one is fantastic. So sharp and clear.

Don't think you should say "all I got" the first picture alone would be worth the trip. Besides the sharpness and all, already commented on, I especially like the composition, nicely cropped, and with lower goose with wings up and upper goose with wings down, just works.

Thanks folks. I *am* happy with that picture, especially since the other two I took where OoF. Not even close.

But you should have seen the 498 that got away!
:)

OK, OK, no more whining...
