all pictures shot with the 30d and 70-200 f/4L non IS. used a crappy tripod. cranked the ISO up to 400 for the shots in the huge shadow cast by the building. was too lazy to change settings for the ones in the sun.

my goal was to take portraits of the riders while riding...so if you are wondering why f/4 and the rediculous shutter speeds..there you go.

any critisism is highly appreciated.

all shot at ISO 400 and f/4.

Sorry, but IMAGE POSTING RULES only allow 8 linked pics per thread, so I removed the IMG tags from the last ones.

Good effort, keep at it, and...

Just a few recommendations. Take it with a grain of salt.

Try using a lower ISO. The colors are a little flat and it has that grainy look. Get closer to your subject. Since you are already at your widest aperture, getting closer should blur out your background further isolating your subject. See if you can position yourself between the sun and your subject. The contrast is a bit much with the subjects backlit, except for that headshot which looks great. Your failure to adjust your metering for the time your subject was under the sun shows up by the blown background and muted colors. Watch your background. It's better to shoot away from the warehouse than towards it to avoid those yellow poles that detract so much from the image. Framing is a little too loose on the distant shots and a bit tight on the closeup action shots. If the rider is not that experienced, it's safer for you to shoot from a distance. You might want to brief your rider on where to execute peak action. Planning a shot makes your work a lot easier than shooting from the hip. The people shots are great. At 1/1,000 and above, the images still seem a bit shakey/blurry. I'm speculating that you were on the run or did not sharpen when you reduced the images. The BW conversion is good except for the vignetting. Wheelies are a little better to look at from the side. The bike's undercarriage is not really that attractive with all the gunk showing.

thank you so much. it's really nice to actually get something other than "pics look good" or "keep it up". so what was it about the vinette? just don't like fake vignette or did i just do it wrong? i didn't do much sharpening at all. smart sharpen at 3 pixels and 20% or less usually. i hate the way an oversharpened picture looks. the really blurry ones(like the one where he's about to fall off the bike) were just misfocused. other than that i run them through neatimage before sharpening which definitely softens the pic up a little. that place is weird because all of the riders stunt in one direction only. the background is always blown out as a result. next time i'll set it to ISO 100. i was actually expirementing with the high ISO to see how it would turn out in that bright of daylight. i'm still pretty new to this whole photography thing and got a ton to learn.

i appreciate all the great comments as well.

visual...we were actually at irving/grand prarie border close to where 183 and 360 meet. if you ever wanna go check the place out let me know. they ride every weekend and some weeknights.

any other comments or critisism, please feel free.

yea the vignette was manufactured w/ cs2. i don't know why, i just like the effect it has on b&w's. i'll give the concrete exposure thing a shot.

i stunt out there too and i like going the opposite direction myself. the concrete is just a little bit slanted so i think they are just used to rolling their endos and leaning to the right and it messes them up when they go the other direction. well the place i normally practice is the other way around so i like rolling mine the other direction. now i can only go around 200ft, but some of those guys roll the whole parkin lot from where they pick it up 400+ ft.

the guy on the yellow 929 is matt lindamood who got 3rd at stuntwars with 559ft from a 300ft limited approach. the guy on the green bike "crazy mike" got 14th in the individual freestyle. i'm nowhere near as good as them though.
