My biggest number ever was nearly 700 - I'd just gotten my 70-200 and went to ahn agricultural show, and was testing out various features of the set-up like servo autofocus, 5 fps and the like.

Most of the pictures were crap, and since then I have been far more selective about pressing the shutter button!

Most I ever did was probably around 12-1500. Just for weddings. Otherwise, I rarely top 200 or so per day.

Averaged about 400 frames a day down @ clubmed..

Now I'm surprised if I shoot more than 50.

so do you know how many photos you can fit on to your HDD?

It's a bus-powered 120GB drive, but I have some stuff on there I can't erase, so I only have about 100GB left. I figure if I shoot RAW+S (I'm going to use small JPEG so I can easily view later on my laptop), I'll use about 16MB per shot. So....if my math is correct, I'll fit about 6,250 shots on the hard drive (100,000 MB / 16MB). Since I'm gone for 18 days, it means I can take about 347 shots a day. That doesn't leave me any room for videos taken on my P&S.

it's sounding like you are taking your laptop, can you burn dvd's with your laptop. that may be around the way of your videos. put all photos on the HDD and then put everything else on DVD?

otherwise the only thing I would then recommend is getting a bigger HDD

Or delete the "non-keepers" (if there are any) each night or as needed.

I got another 2.5 inch USB hard drive last night for $109 so now I've got about 200 GB of storage. I wish they made larger capacity 2.5 inch USB-powered drives, but I haven't been able to find one bigger than 120GB. The nice thing about those ones is that they are pretty small and light.

I figured for that amount of money, it wasn't worth stressing about running out of space. I can't imagine a lot of things worse than having something to shoot and running out of storage space to save it.

If my calculations are right now, I'll be able to shoot on average, about 700 shots a day for the 17/18 days that I'm there. That's got to be WAY more than enough, I figure. :)

I hope you had put plenty time aside after your trip to sort out your photos :) it sounds like you may need it.

anyway have a good trip.

Haha. Thanks. I have to bring my laptop so hopefully, I have a chance to sort my photos out during the bus transit times. I'm just getting back into shooting pictures and I'm new to DSLRs, so I figure I'll still be in the shoot-and-pray mode. I'm not going to pretend to anyone that I'm a master or pro at composition.
