What a surprise the Weather Channel used a photo of mine on the Abrams & Bettes Beyond the Forecast show last night. This is the photo of Gyro playing in the snow, he is a cocker spaniel/dachshund mix with very short legs and the snow was close to a foot deep when this was taken.

Shot using the 20D with the 24-70mm 2.8L on RAW. ISO 800 at 1/250 f22. Shot appears to be a little dark and has lost some detail after I converted from original tif to jpg for web.

Probably because he was at ISO 800.

Nice shot. Did you get a verbal mention? How did you know it was used? Do you watch the Weather channel alot? Submit alot of pictures to various news agencies?

Personally I would have opened the aperture, lowered the ISO and upped the shutter speed a little.

Reason for ISO is I grabbed camera and tried to get shot before Gyro got lost in a snow bank poor guy can't get thru the yard right now because the snow is deeper than he is tall. I had uploaded shot to weather.com and was contacted by the producer yesterday afternoon that they wanted to use it. They gave me credit as well as dogs name, age and that he came from the humane society

I totally understand and hope you realize I was not trying to denigrate you using the ISO800. I figured it was a grab and go situation. I've done the same more than once ( but mine weren't published)

Way to go again.

I am still curious how you knew it was going to be on and was also curious about your submission practices.

No offense taken at all we do what we can to get the shot in certain stituations. As to getting on The Weather Channel I was checking our weather forcast to see if this deep freeze was ever going to end and foundthat they were asking for pet photo submissions and uploaded the shot as a fun winter photo. About three days later the producer contacted me asking if they could use it and info on Gyro. I said sure its just a fun family pic of the dog not anything I'd sell so I'm fine with them using it and they did give me credit and the family loves having a celebrity even if he walks on four legs and wears a fur coat.
