Hi guys, I'm a newbie looking to purchase a digital camera for under 500$. So far, I have looked at several brands and it looks to me like Fuji Finepix S52000 is by far the best value. You can buy a new one for only 250$, and according to the reviews, it has a very high image quality (my top priority), 10x zoom, 5.1MP, and you can use different lenses. Please let me know what you think about this camera and if you think there are better Canon cameras?

Thanks,
Alex

Im not too farmilliar with the fuji, but I and MANY other people on here own Canon's S3 IS. The S3 IS has 12x op zoom, 6MP, great image quality, image stabilization and a host of other great features. You can also get an adapter which allows the addition of filters and conversion lenses.

The previous model, the S2 IS, had 10x zoom and 5MP. Sounds quite similar to the fuji you speak of. The S3 IS is a step up from that.

I love my S3 IS.

Actually, the S2 IS also has a 12 X zoom.

Oops ... Sorry, some reason I thought it was 10x. I must be thinking of a different camera I had compared the S3 to last fall.

Regardless Tuskir, the S3 has come down in price ALOT in the past 6 months and is well under $500. I paid $550 CDN last July.

I looked at the specs on the Fuji, and like the Canon S3, the only lenses that can be added are Conversion Lens, which is also true with the Canon S3. The fact that the Fuji uses the Xd picrure card, and not the more popular SD card, would be a set back for me. Personally, I would have to go for the Canon. But that's just my opinion.

I'm having a hard time understanding what this has to do with Tuskir's question about buying a sub $500 compact.

Sub-500, didn't see a "compact" requirement there. If it's under $500, he could have himself a real buy.

Right you are! Guess I'm seeing things that ain't there. I still somehow doubt that the Xti with the extras are being sold for under $500. But if they are, then what a deal!

"XT [that] i bought" not "XTi bought". Since it includes a Quantaray lens, I'm guessing it's "$700 without the Quantaray, $500 with it" :{)#

I guess what I was trying to say, was that this just doesn't seem like the right thread for buy, sell and trade. And I do find it very hard to believe that the "Rebel XT" with extra 200 mm lens and more, will be sold for under $500. Nor will it have the 10X zoom that Tuskir desires.

If it's a legit. response to OP, it's acceptable.

Actually, I'm beginning to think I'm the one who's made the mistake here. Anyway, the best of luck with the sell of your equipment.

Italypa99, I sent you a PM. How hard is the XT to use? Remember, I'm a beginner and was looking for a simple point and shoot camera for vocations and such... are SLR's more for professional photographers?
