BATTLE OF THE BIRDS 2007

Well here we are in a new year of competition, and this time both teams have some great moves to show off, and are eager to start the game.

On this side we have the underdog. alone he may be, but his size and quickness may proof to give him a major advantage in this ballgame.

Funny. I guess the moral of this story is to eat dinner fast so it's off the plate in a hurry.

The Frigate birds are so amazing, there wings are so pterodactyl! I've never seen them in "person" (isn't that funny I bet there as common as gulls down there)

Yes, they are very amazing. you really cant capture what they are capable of with stills, i mean you can get some impressive shots, but it just doesnt compair to watching one of them fall out of the sky onto a bait or chasing another bird, they have unparralled manuverability for a bird their size. Actually even though they are undoubtly huge birds, they only weigh a few pounds, are unable to swim or walk, and therefore are basically flying kites, giving them some serious air superiority. As you can see in the second shot, out on the reef over some bait there will easily be 50 to even 100 of them, and the competition becomes quite intense.

I shot these while shooting a sailfish fly tournament for a magazine, so on the one hand i didnt want to spend too much time focusing on the birds, but on the other hand the weather was NASTY, and fishing was slow (it has been all season) so i didnt have terrible much else to do.

but you really should come see them in action some day.

Bill: Beautiful stuff and the game commentating was superb .... I would love to see Frigates some day.... I guess we have them some where around here but haven't seen a one yet ..... Beautiful birds.....Take care

yea if you got out into the gulf stream or altantic youll see a bunch of them. the Tongue doesnt have much bait life so there arnt as many seabirds in your area.
