alcohol. Yet, here's a bottle of wine I use to cook with. So, does that mean I 'drink?' ???

Taken with a newly acquired 400mm F5.6L. I know, it's not a duck, but it was dark out when I got home...so, there! :D

Please feel to give me some pointers. I am always attempting to learn, more and more. This site just helps obtain so much useful info., I just hope that I use it correctly.

I did feel that there's some blank space in the top left of the frame, I think I need to look for a candle.

Enjoy.

Oh...and the lens is a blast.

Just like a person, objects can look too posed and out of place. Simplify the shot and tell a story that could actually happen. Apple cheese and wine. If there are flowers, why are they stuck near the wine with an apple. Flowers with wine would be a boquet and put on a counter they tell the story of a date. The composition of objects should be natural not forced.

The WB bothered me a little too.

Appreciate the comments, and the tips for making it a little different. I know cheese and crackers were missing...just didn't have any at home (bummer).

I didn't modify the wb on purpose. I wanted to get an ambiance from the rooms lighting. Thanks for the adjustment. Yet, I like my version as well. I was attempting to accentuate the color of the wall...which isn't white. Next time, I will shoot with a custom WB (this shot was just the first to test a new lens). Gray card to the rescue.

Thanks again...

I'm biased. I like dark red wine.

The hotspots on the bottle kind of detract from this still life. makes it look like a flash went off. overall, i like it, and think it works better with the warm white balance as opposed to the corrected.

Yes, I agree...the flash doesn't help. Also, it was taken in the kitchen, so not the best place to take it, given the reflective surface of the glass and bottle.

Thanks for the insight. It's still life, so, at least it won't fly away...and I can redo the shots. I have a 'free' weekend coming up, so I am sure to put the 400 through it's paces, even though it's cold outside.

Have you ever tried using white wine and using the wine glass as a lens to capture an object behind it like grapes? The grapes will be upside down.

Nope, can't say that I have...though I am sure it would be an interesting effect. It's an idea...and one that I can try...but I don't think it's worth it to try that with a 400mm lens...hehe.

Waiting for the Fishy to get here...and then, I can try that...wonder what kind of weird effect that would produce... ???

I will put the 400 to the test in the field, and see what happens...that's what it is really meant for.
