Hi guys. I only recently moved to the Southern Maryland area. I would be interested in any sort of shoot you think of doing! Keep me posted.

I will keep checking this thread to see what's going on. If I am available, I would like to attend.

John,
Maybe as the weather warms up we can look further into a camping trip, not sure how many members in this area camp, but I always look forward to a weekend away.
Thanks,Jim

Sounds like fun Jim, its been awhile since I camped last time. I can only imagine the ghost stories photographers would tell around the campfire. Tales of Error99, uncharged batteries and bad blocks on memory cards.. Eeek!

We stay at KOAs most of the time which are easy - the one in Harpers Ferry is nice, located right next to the Harpers Ferry National Park. Theres also one in Hagerstown on a quiet little creek in a town called 'Snug Harbor'. Its tiny though with great nature but quiet.

We'll have to throw out a date when the weather breaks and see who is interested in coming.

We did a midweek shoot there last year for those who could get away - during the weekends will be mobbed. It'll be a bit before we can have a better idea when they'll be out. Bloom Watch (external link) will start posting updates in late Feb. to early Mar. Festival's Mar. 31-Apr. 15.

I live about 15 minutes from Harpers Ferry. It used to be a great place to shoot at whenever I got bored and didn't have anything to do. Lately they're been charging and outrageous amount to park in a dinky parking lot where you're garanteed to get door dings...makes me kind of mad.

What's fun to do is to sneak in at night during the summer (since it supposed to be closed to vistors after dusk) and get some great night shots. I'm going to check it out when it gets warmer, but my car and my bike both have loud exhaust on them, so it might end up being a nice hike to get into the park. Should be fun though...

edit: Another good idea would be a monthly dinner/meet if there's not one already. Something were people can hang out and get to know each other so they'll have some kind of photography aquaintances...

My village called. I was told that they missed me.

I'm putting together plans to go to Williams Grove Speedway on March 4. That is their season opener, and one of only a few race dates that occur during daylight - most races there are on Friday and Saturday night.

I've never shot Sprint Cars - I want to test out some new (to me) lenses and work on my composition and technique in daylight - then go one night during the season (when it is warmer).

Anyone that is interested, please let me know.

Have Fun,

Rick

Rick, I may be interested. Will have to see how that weekend pans out. Theres also another track in Hagerstown that is closer and still nice (http://www.hagerstownspeedway.com (external link)) as well as Capitol Raceway for Drag racing (http://www.capitolraceway.com). Dont forget the Maryland International Speedway (http://www.mirdrag.com).

The only problem with those dirt tracks - rocks. Last time I was at Hagerstown I was in the stands and getting hit with lots of rocks and dirt clumps. Make sure you have lens protection in place.

John,

My daughter goes to college in Mechanicsburg, so that is one reason to go to Williams Grove. I'll go up early, and we'll go to lunch before I head over to the Speedway.

Good point about the flying debris - I have filters on every lens that will accept them. I'll have to wing it with the big glass.

Have Fun,

Rick

Suzy and I've been talking following up on this. How about Udvar-Hazy (Air & Space at Dulles) on Mar. 17?

I'd be interested in doing it again - thats the one in Chantilly (and not DC) right? Just did that one a few months back but theres way too much to photograph there that you could do in just a day. Count me in!

Hi. I'm new. I live in north Baltimore County. I'd sure enjoy a meet up if you plan one!
