Quashie - sorry for the confusion. THe meet-up at the MD Renn Fair is October 10th at 9AM. Just look for all the photographers outside the gate area.

Our local camera club is hosting an overnight photo trip to the Shenandoah area the weekend of October 23rd/24th and there are four seats left. The van will leave at 5:30am Saturday morning from Severna Park, MD and arrive home around 5-6pm Sunday evening. The stops include Natural Bridge, VA - various stops along Blue Ridge Pkwy and Skyline Drive. We're hoping it will be perfect for the start of fall foliage. The cost per person is $63 and covers the two day van rental, driver tip, gas and covers any driving tolls. You will be responsible for hotel and food.

The drop dead deadline is tomorrow evening, if anyone here is interested please e-mail me as soon as possible at john (at) johnmilleker.com and I will get you in touch with the trip coordinators.

They're trying to fill the four seats but if they don't they'll bump down the van from a 15-seater to a 12-seater to save on rental fees.

I just found a really nice spot (in PA not far from MD) with a series of small waterfalls off the Susquehanna River near Holtwood Dam. Spent a few hours up there this past weekend. Colors will probably be even better this weekend.

Can you be a bit more specific with the location? I'd love to check it out.

The water falls are located on McCalls Ferry Rd near the Lock 12 Historic Area. You will take a left McCalls Ferry Rd which is just before the Norman Woods Bridge/Susquehanna Rover if you come from Rt 74 and it will be the first right if you come from the Quarryville Side.

Once you turn on McCalls Ferry Rd you will drive until you come to a small concrete bridge and you will see the water falls to your left and part of the stone foundation from one of the locks on your right.

You also have Kilgore Falls in Northern Harford County. You would take Rt 24 towards Rocks State Park then turn right on St Mary's Rd (you will see a church on the left hand side after turning on St Mary's Rd) and then turn right on Falling Branch Rd and there will be a parking lot on the right. Park there and walk to the falls.

I am hoping to get back to the one near Holtwood either tomorrow or Sunday. If Sunday I will do Kilgore Falls as well.

If you are into wildlife there were several bald eagles at the Conowingo Dam last weekend as well. I was down there around 8 AM and there were at least four flying around and a lot of big lenses

I'm heading up there this Sunday, hopefully, there's some action. Did you get any shots?

I tried to get to one that was hanging out in the tree on the parking lot side, but way too many people all bunched up trying to get shots. I may be up there Saturday or Sunday morning.

From what I understand the Bald Eagle activity really picks up in Dec/Jan around Conowingo.

I've read that there are normally several dozen Eagles along that area.

I hope my info is correct, my cousin is coming up form Kentucky between Christmas and New Years for them.

I may have to go up there this week and scout out some spots.

If you google " eagles conowingo " some real good info should come up from a bird club ... detailed info on locations and HAZARDS, as they talk about places to get to that are not paved.

These may have been written some time ago, but I believe the info to still be good ..... http://www.harfordbirdclub.org/conowingo.html (external link)

Here is a satellite view map with areas marked off ... http://wiki.worldflicks.org …9.662271,-76.172869)&z=15 (external link)

Hey all.. Conowingo is close to its peak now. By December the numbers start to drop. I am there 2 times a week and I've counted over 100 birds. Last year the middle of November the numbers were around 200.. Very cool place to watch Bald Eagles for sure. It also gets very crowded this time of year. Go on flickr and search conowingo.. Good luck.
