Umbrellas: Translucent or Reflective?

I know this may seem like a bit of and odd question since I want softer light, but what would a translucent umbrella do for me as apposed to one that has reflective insides?

well what does the transclucent one do? will I get ANY bounced light or am I basically just shooting through it?

You bounce the light off the reflective umbrella so you use it with the opening of the umbrella facing the subject. You shoot through the translucent umbrella so you use it with the curved outside facing the subject.

There's also the Photogenic Eclipse series of umbrellas that I like. I have several sizes of the satin white with removable cover.

A "shoot-through" umbrella setup spills a LOT of light behind the rig. That light reflects off whatever's in the vicinity and winds up back on your subject, possible with unwanted color shift.
