I recently signed up for an account with zenfolio. After days of going back and forth between them and smugmug I finally decided on zenfolio for its ease of use, its beautiful themes and layout and the gorgeous slideshow. Not to mention the price ;)

I'd love it if you checked out my gallery and gave me your feedback. Let me know of any mistakes I've made :)

If you would like to sign up for zenfolio yourself and save $5, please feel free to use my discount code, you can find it on my home page.

Thanks!

Fabulous hummingbird shots! I'm going to e-mail the link to my son and daughter-in-law; they are hummingbird fans.

When did voluptuous become voluminous?

Thank you so much, Glenn, that is very kind of you :)

I still have to upload my Hummingbird nesting series, tell your son and daughter-in-law to look for that. I was very lucky to have a nest in my yard a year ago and I took pics almost daily. That's what started my obsession with bird photography.

I currently have my pictures on Smugmug.. but in the next few weeks I will be reaching my first anniversary.

I have to admit I love the layout of your zenfolio pictures (not the mention the superb pictures as well). Did you opt for the top of the range package?

The only thing holding me back is the 1000+ photos I currently have on smugmug

My Canon can.. I just need to find out how

Oh, I know what you mean, I'm switching from flickr (I wanted something more serious) where I have 801 pics. Going through my old files is a pain, I need a new filing system! Good news is that zenfolio is very userfriendly, everything you need is on one page. That's where I found Snugmug to be very timeconsuming too much switching back and forth.

Thank you very much for checking out my gallery (yes, it's the $40 package) and for your nice words. Good luck with your decision. Think of me when/if you decide to make the switch and use my code :)

Bea,

Have you figured out how to embed pictures here from Zenfolio? When I try to add the address of a photo to the POTN form, from the info box for the selected picture, I'm told (here) that it's an invalid domain, or something like that.

Molly, it is very easy: first you copy the picture addy from zenfolio (I love how easy they make it. Flickr and Smugmug are more complicated) then you go to your POTN message box, click on that yellow/mountain icon at the top and paste the address in the popup. Hit enter and you're done unless you want to add more pics.

Hope this helps :)

PS: Make sure that you chose the correct pic size from the list in zenfolio. I think I use large which is 800 pixels or smaller.

Is this dumb or what? I never thought to see what was on the dropdown menu that says "Photo Page" and gives the sizes.

I bet this works --and thanks so much. I loved ZenFolio on sight and am so thankful to the person that posted the link in the sticky file of threads about uploading.

Yup. The address appeared, bracketed with the IMG tags.

(It's a flower of a little Polygonum we have in the pastures, kind of like an old fashioned twiner called Kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate or Rau Ram, if you're familiar with either of those. I think it's from the wild bird seed mix I used to use --don't remember it before that. Quite pretty if it would behave.)

Molly, no image tags. Copy the pic addy in the drop down manu and paste it, as is, in the pic icon OR use the IMG tags (no space!).

Hmmmm, I just tried it and it didn't work for me either. I'll check my zenfolio settings a bit later for you, dinner's ready.

Had to leave the table because I had a thought: Are you still using the trial version? Maybe they don't allow linking from that?

I'm a big fan of referal marketing, and every so often, something comes along that deserves being mentioned to all your friends and peers. Zenfolio is certainly one of those.

I've been a pBase member for about three years, and really liked it. I never did like Smugmug very much. Since it's inception, it always seemed to be set up to sell pictures on mugs, mouse pads and so forth, so I never took it seriously. Then I noticed their price for the "professional" package was up to $150 - ridiculous!

Along came Zenfolio, and I was hooked from day one. Even though I had six months left on my pBase account, I switched immediately, and have'nt regreted it since. The presentations are great, it's easy to use, and the service is great. I just can't recommend Zenfolio enough.

By the way, you gallery is wonderful. I especially enjoyed the one on Herons. Keep up the great work.

Bea--

In the 'raw' view when I was writing the message, the address of the picture appears flanked by the field codes that tell the magician that lives inside the forum software to make a picture of the information. Like the codes for Italics or a quote. I probably shouldn't have called them tags.

The problem was just that I hadn't specified a size, so the address wasn't right for a single picture. And I'd probably never have investigated that menu without your hint, I was so hung up on the idea that the fact that all my galleries are private was the problem.

I think it's really great that I can make ONE picture available. I wonder what will happen if I lock it again...

It's obvious from your avatar that you'd love the colors ZenFolio uses! (What is the hummer feeding on?) It was just so pleasing after the garish clutter on so many other galleries I looked at. I do wish they'd make their home page a little faster to load.

What are zenfoilios pros over Smugmug?
How much are their services (different levels I am guessing exist like smugmug), and what are the differences between them? I only see two on their site.
Can you download different themes from a forum (wish you could do that with smugmug, or maybe you can, but I don't know how. I don't have the patience to go coding for a theme.)
Do they offer a discount for those transferring from smugmug? :D. I've still got like half a year left, but it's something to consider. I have, however, been happy with my smugmug.
Can you sell photos on Zenfoilio? That is a big thing with smugmug. For me to know, that if I ever start a business up, or become so proud of my work that I think it's worthy of selling, smugmug will back me there with a pro account.

Canon EOS 30D, Sigma 30 1.4, Sigma 10-20, Sigma 105 Macro, 135L, 430ex, Lowepro Mini Trekker AW, Manfrotto 3001pro w/486rc2 and 804rc2 head, Manfrotto 681 w/ 3232 head.

Hm, let me see, maybe i should have written down what I didn't like so much at smugmug, out of sight, out of mind.

I remember that I found SM very complicated to use, a lot of switching around different places to change info, title, captions and such. I hope you know what I mean. In ZF it is all done from one place. Linking your pics to forums like POTN is a breeze too, just click on the size you want, click copy and that's it. Page layout, themes etc is easy and very intuitive, again all done in one place. There aren't as many options to customize your gallery, no HTML or such you can use, not as many themes, but the themes all look great in my opinion. ZF gives you and your visitors the choice between 2 print services, Mpix and EZprints. If you have your own domain name you can use it at the unlimited level. The last thing that comes to mind is that you are not limited in the depth of sub-levels (breadcrumbs?).

I also find ZF more visitorfriendly. The gallery looks clean and the slideshow is great, it fills the entire screen.

Cons: at this time ZF does not have customizable pricing for your prints and visitors don't have the possibility to leave comments (they're working on both and more goodies)

Pricing: ZF has a starter level ($25) and an unlimited level ($40). Discounts are available through discount codes (mine is C52-TYA-8TZ). I'd say the unlimited level is somewhere between SM's power ($59.95) and professional ($149.95) level, and they are working hard on more features. Customer service is fast, btw, just like SM.

I think the best thing to do is to use the free trial on both, create a few galleries, upload a few pics. You will see what a timesaver ZF is compared to SM.

I don't know, smugmug, at first looks complicated, but it is very simple once you get to know it, well, except maybe the html coding and customization.
The no comment thing and no customizable pricing are both big deals imo though.
