I am looking at getting this QFlash kit from B&H
http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ails&Q=&sku=314906&is=REG (external link)

My question is this, I want to get the QTTL capabilities and wireless would not hurt either. What do I need to get to make this happen, I have checked the quantum website and got more confused. I also read about a QNexus component that works with the 580EX to make them sync together in a two or three light set-up.

Calicokat:
I am not much of a creative light person, not a setup perfectionist. For my on-the-go, I sure like QFlash. Since Quantum upgraded it to the T5-d-R and I added QNexus I am in pig heaven integrating QFlash into wireless E-TTL with my existing Canon EX Flashes. I put my notes this week here:
http://postit.rutgers.edu …on%5FWirelessE%2DTTL1.pdf (external link)

To offer opinion on your Q, no I would not buy the B&H kit.
1st, your gear list says you own the battery.
2nd, QFlash works fine with umbrella, but better with modest priced Norman small softboxes that come pre-stitched in QFlash mount for $45. Save umbrella for your EXs in Fill position.
3rd, No point in buying a T5-d without the R if you're going new, no point in new if you will not use QNexus. Get my drift?
Last week I saw a good QFlash in Fred Miranda for only $315! If you will use in Manual with light meter, these are fine. If you want full Canon E-TTL wireless integration, the T4-d upgrade by Quantum is only $99; together 2/3 cost of a new T5-d-R!

We had a QFlash thread this week, and I put my opinions in it:

Thanks for the info. If I were to get the Freewire FW9T and D13W QTTL adapter, would I be set for wireless QTTL or is there more I need to get.

As for the QNexus would be to control multiple flashes, am I correct or way off

1. Each T5-d-R needs its own QNexus receiver for Canon wireless E-TTL integration. Canon 580EX or ST-E2 does the transmitting. QNexus allows you to just bring QF right into the existing Canon mix.

2. I believe for FreeWire to transmit Q-TTL you need Dw hot shoe adaptor.
I use Dw hotshoe adaptor when my single QFlash is on flash rotation bracket over camera.

When my QF is off camera, I started using QNexus with Canon wireless Master. As owner of a single QF, and working at closer in distances, I couldn't see going to FreeWire. My opinion is FreeWire is great for true wireless TTL, FEC, and Ratios over bigger distances, with 2-3-or more QFs.

I don't do weddings and stuff. I imagine for wedding work, or table groups, dances, the ability to remotely on-the-fly set Canon FEC (Q calls it AutoFill) and Ratios might be handy. I thnk if a person were, like just lighting up a high school gym or similar, would not not need QFlash at all, just mono or battery lights with a meter and/or trial and error. QFlash is too expensive for just making lights go pop.

I just need one good light and some fill. One good one does a lot.

I understand the Tech Support is very good at Quantum if you want to give them a call with your questions.

Why didn't I think of that, sometimes the simply solution is so obvious you miss it. Thanks for the advice, I will be contacting them asap :D
