Hi,
I was looking at Canon's 75-300mm USMIII lens at Samy's today and one of the guys behind the counter brought the Tamaron 75-300mm to my attention. It was a bit cheaper, includes a lens hood, and had a 5 year warranty. Anybody have had experiences with this lens? I did a search and found couple of post on the Sigma 75-300mm lens being better than Canon's but couldn't find much on the Tamaron.

Thanks.

I had the Sigma a while ago (which is very OK for it's price) and my best friend had the Tamron (I believe it's the same model, but I am not 100% sure). I believe the Tamron was not as expensive.

For my uses I believed the Sigma was better, but I think the Tamron was better in Macro mode. But the Tamron had more CA than the Sigma, if I remember correctly. In the end we both traded away the lenses, but for different reasons.

Edit: checked it out. My friend's lens was a a DI LD 1:2 Macro version (for digital cameras). My Sigma was a lot softer around 300 mm compared to the Tamron, but I think Tamron is more a budget lens compared to the other two. Main advantage seem to be price and Macro.

I had the Tamron for a little while. Choosing this or the Canon 75-300 really depends on your priorities.

For IQ, I'd give the win to the Tamron. For AF speed and noise, the Canon is better (the Tamron is LOUD)

I had the Canon 75-300, and used within its limits, it's ok. It is going to be soft at 300mm, needs good light, and performs at its best stopped down a little. All of the budget zooms are going to have the same basic issues to some extant. Everything I've read gives the Sigma 70-300 the nod for something in that price range.
