I have a Canon i9900 printer and just finished a collage consisting of 12 pictures (all converted to b&w except one) with some writing below the pictures. I used CS2, each photo has it's own layer, to make the collage but here is the problem - I want to print the collage in black and white (greyscale) but I have one picture and some writing I want to retain in color. The i9900 will print a good b&w picture if I check the greycale box but if I print the collage "as is" without checking the greyscale box the pictures have somewhat of a color cast to them. Is there a way to print 11 pictures in greyscale and the one picture in color?

Thanks for any assstance.........

What you are saying is that you have one image to be printed and it is mostly black and white except for a small piece of color in it , is that right .

Do you get any color casts during full color printing , its sounds like your color management is off, what does the image look like when soft proofing in PS .

The answer is actually relatively easy if the images are not all connected: just print the page twice.

  • Turn off the layer you want to be in color and print the rest in B&W.
  • Then turn off all of those layers and print the last one in color over the previous print.
The printer should be good enough to pull the paper in at almost exactly the point as before. Just make sure that the paper feed is nice and tight and that your printing with the best possible output selected.
If the Canon is anything like my epson, then printing at the highest quality really slows down the process and pulls the paper in nice and smooth.

EDIT: Of course, wait till the previous print is dry before printing again! ;)
