You hit the nail on the head. Although there is very little that is at the same distance as the plane (except the first pic where the plane is just leaving the ground), the loss of perspective from the telephoto lens caused a lot of background clutter that I took out of focus using PhotoShop. This causes the focused plane to "pop" out of the picture a bit.

Thanks, I think that is why you are getting the comments that they look like models or screen grabs.
The aircraft looks good, the background tinkering has a distracting effect. This is just the opinion of a newb with very little skill in photography.
