I'm having a hard time trying to figure out exactly how the Canon double rebates work. I have the "Cash In with Canon" form, but it's still not clear to me.

If I buy a EOS 5D and a 24-70 f/2.8L, what's the total rebate--and how is it calculated?

That $300 rebate for the 5D would double to $600 because you bought a second rebate item. Also the lens would double as well. I think it's $50? So it would be $100.

You just saved $700! Congatulations! Enjoy! (while I'm crying)

BTW ... Make sure you follow the rebates rules to the letter. Saves a lot of hassle later. And make copies of everything you send in, just in case.

Like johneo said, make copies of EVERYTHING!

Secure the UPC and serial number codes to the paper using a piece of scotch tape. Do not simply put them in the envelope and let them roam loose. They will fall out when the processor opens the envelope and then they will lose them and then you'll get a rejection letter.

Edit: And don't forget to prequalify your rebate on the web first. That way it is somewhat trackable.

here's how the rebates work... you buy a bunch of gear, the more you buy, the more rebate you're entitled to. you fill in your forms, mail them in, and then the more your rebate amount, the longer you wait.

I'm still waiting.

Canon Double Rebate

I just check the online rebate status and it still shows at stage 1(Internet Submission).. and I have mailed it over a 2 weeks ago..
I am sure they have gotten the mail by now, so what's taking them so long to get to the stage 2(Mail Submission)?
Does it normally takes this long?

There's plenty of other threads on this, which I am sure you can serach for. Just hope that you sent everything they asked for, correctly....otherwise, it will delay your rebate. Check around for the other threads...

You forgot the step where they tell you you didn't send in the right pieces of paper and you have to either resubmit everything or convince them they are mistaken.

I resubmitted on Friday last week. Canon process center said they were not doing this particular rebate. I contacted Young America Corp. Their logo was on the bottom of my rebate form. I hope this time it works. I'm expecting $620.

Thanks guys for the replies. As always, the subject of rebates stirs up a lot of happy memories--not.

My latest tactic (at someone else's suggestion) is to make a photo-copy of the UPC code, then print it out enlarged and attach the original to that sheet--which, hopefully, is a reminder to the rebate company that I have good copies of the original.

My question about the rebate quagmire is, why haven't the attorneys general of several states, the Justice Department, and 60 Minutes investigated this multi-billion dollar rip off?
