This is sort of a companion piece to yesterday's post of a violent fight between some elephant seal bulls fighting over a harem. Perhpas my jesting title didn't draw many lookers for that post, but if this one intrigues you at all, you can check out the earlier post here:

These images were taken before the big fight and while it was raining at the time these were taken, it wsa nothing to the driving rain during the fight sequence.
All images taken with Canon 20D, 500mm f/4L IS, ISO 400, f/4.0, on a Gitzo 1325 tripod with full Wimberly head. Shutter speed varies throughout. The EXIF data is intact, as always.
A "Weaner" isn't quite sure how to look at the world. These guys put on 250 lb. or so in the 28 days it takes them to wean from their mothers. The mother's milk is among the richest on earth and is 55% fat. It's like they are eating 1000 scoops of ice cream a day!
A loser takes a nap. This bull was exhausted, probably from losing an earlier battle with another bull. He was all alone on the beach here and you can see a bloody scar on his neck on the left of the image.
A cow vocalizes in the rain.
Two females spar.
Sing it with me girl! "I like mine with lettuce and tomato..."
"Hienz 57 and french fried potatoes..."
Methinks she doth protest too much. A male mounts one of his harem - who isn't completely thrilled with the idea.
When the sand files, look out for sand flies!
